In 1957, Mayor Harry Jenkins announced plans to install traffic signals at all intersections within the city limits so that vehicles could be stopped at stoplights without having to risk running into other vehicles oncoming from perpendicular directions. This was an early example of how traffic signals have been used to regulate access to areas within cities today. While gun lights are still widely used in Broward County today, their origins can be traced back over 165 years!

Boynton Beach, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 53,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county's second most populous city and its fifth largest municipality by land area. Boynton Beach is also home to two naval installations: Naval Station Miami Beach and Naval Station Key Largo. The town of Boynton Beach was founded in 1942 on a large piece of beachfront property donated by Rear Admiral John Farragut. The first post office opened in 1944. In 1946 the name was changed to "Boynton" after Admiral Arthur A. Boynton who had served as Commandant of the Marine Corps Reserve from 1945 until his death in 1961. In 1958, Mayor James Pasternak approved plans for what would become one of South Florida's largest shopping malls – Clearwater Mall – which opened in 1959 and became one of the leading malls in the U.S.. In 1969 Congressman Everett Dirksen announced that he would not seek re-election and resigned from Congress; this created an opening for then-Mayor James Manley to run for mayor against incumbent Ralph Cisneros; Manley won easily with 54% of the vote to Cisneros' 36%. In 1979, Manley submitted a plan to annex portions of Pinellas County into Miami-Dade County so that Boynton Beach could be annexed into that county instead of being placed within Miami-Dade County proper; however, this proposal failed to gain traction due to concerns over annexationary intent and potential financial implications for both cities involved. A study conducted by Merrill Lynch & Co., LLC found that if incorporation were allowed as proposed it would result in an increase in taxable value for both cities by 50%, resulting in an overall surplus between boyton BE residents ($5 million) andMiami BE residents ($10 million). However, because incorporation never received final approval from either City Councilmember nor local tax assessors pursuant to state law requirements set forth therein (i.e., no unanimous consent), annexation has yet taken place despite evidence that such action may be necessary should future growth rates exceed initial projections made during the study period - raising serious legal issues which will require resolution before any formal annexation can take place absent further court action or agreement between respective councils/tax assessors

Boynton Beach's first post office opened in 1907 and its current post office building was built in 1959. The town ofBoynton was founded by George Wickersham Boynton on November 8, 1907 as part of what would become Palm Beach County. On December 1, 1907, Boynton filed a plat for an incorporated village which he named "Boynton". He served as its first mayor from 1907 until 1915 when he resigned due to health reasons. The Village of Boynton continued to exist until it merged into the City of Miami on April 3rd 1961 pursuant to an act of the Florida Legislature called "An Act To Promote Municipal Consolidation" (Chapter 513). On July 16th 1914 US Coast Guard Commodore Caulfield reported that his shipwrecked sailors had been landed at Biscayne Bay by means of a launch from Fort Myers docked at Biscayne Bay; they were being taken care of by George Washington Boyington who lived on property belonging to Commodore Caulfield's company now known as Ocean Spray Marina LLC In 1928 while still Mayorofboynton beach i helped found baileys bay country club which later became one of palm bays most wellknown golf courses
Boynton Beach, Florida was founded on December 7, 1915 by J.C. Boynton and his wife Florence. The town is named after J.C. Boynton's grandfather, James Boynton, who had settled in the area in 1881.
