They named their new settlement after José Gomez y Báez, one of their number. The town rapidly grew and soon boasted a population of around 100 people. This technology was developed primarily by British optics pioneers such as David Hume and James Hutton who pioneered photography and microscopy respectively during this era. Bordering Jacksonville on three sides was Hollywood Boulevard which made it easy for movie stars (and other celebrities) to visit Bonita Springs whenever they wanted without having to leave their homes.
