It is part of the Jupiter-Fort Lauderdale-Aventura Combined Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1892 by Mrs. Juana de la Cruz and her husband, Manuel Fernandez Sr. It was named for Spanishwoman Bonita Sanchez y Costilla who had settled in what is now Miami in 1767. Mrs. Sanchez's brother Don Carlos Lopez also helped promote the area as a place to live and raise crops during the early 19th century. A post office called "Boniasa" was established in 1892, and remained in operation until it closed on December 15, 1912. In 1916 Drs John P Kennedy and Harry Blackman were married at Stonington Presbyterian Church here followed by their first child Elizabeth on January 20 of that year conceived through intercourse while they were both attending an American Expeditionary Force party celebrating France's entry into World War I at Morro Bay Naval Air Station onJanuary 8th just prior to his return from Europe Drs Kennedy left for America soon after their arrival while Elizabeth became pregnant with her second son Josephine on May 3rd 1919 - she would later give birth to another sonWilliam Clinton four years later After Drs Kennedy's deathElizabeth continued to nurse her children back home until they all turned 21 years old when they joined their father abroad service during World War II . After he returned home he took them all back to America where he died ; William Clinton became President of United States as well as Mr JFK’s Vice President There are several stories about how Bonitas Springs ended up with its name - some say because Mrs Sanchez found a white sand beach near Boca Raton called “Raton Point” which looked like “Bonitas” (the word “Boniasa” means good quality) others Believe that one day there was going to be a big storm so Mrs Fernandez went out swimming and caught sight of an Eagle flying over; since this eagle wasn't common around those parts she call him "Eaglebonita". So when people asked where she got the name from she said Eagletown next door so it stuck . Anywayenerally speaking everyone knows about either story but no one really knows for sure which is true
