Bonita Springs, Florida is a city located in Hardee County, South Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 30,917. The Bonita Springs metropolitan area has a population of over 60,000 people. The city was founded in 1903 by brothers David and John Fenton as "Fenton's Bend." When the First World War broke out in 1914, the town quickly became an active military base with its own hospital and post office. It was during this time that optical equipment first began to be developed here. In 1916 Dr. Harry Brewster created what would become known as "Brewster's disc," which could be seen across North America for the first time. By 1923 there were over 100 businesses in town and it had a population of around 2,500 people. The war ended with Japan's surrender and many of these businesses closed down as refugees returned home or moved away altogether. In 1946 businessman Caryl Mears decided to move his business from Jacksonville Beach to Bonita Springs and opened her own optometry practice there named "Mears Optical." Bonita Springs is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 54,546 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The climate in Bonita Springs is humid subtropical with warm year-round temperatures. The city was founded on April 12, 1892 by Spanish missionaries and named after the Spanish town of Buenavista de la Vega on Cuba's Yucatán Peninsula. A post office called "Buenavista", opened in 1898, and remained open until 1912. The original name of the city may have been inspired by a local bonito fish that moved through the area and attracted attention to the site during its visit to the region. In 1907, questions were raised about whether or not Bonita Springs could support a permanent community due to its limited landholdings and water resources; however, citizens voted 7–0 in favor of establishment of a municipio within Palm Beach County for development purposes only—an event which helped prompt passage of county legislation granting municipalities such autonomy. On October 15, 1924, following years of planning and construction by various groups including Hollywood Chamberlains (later Hollywood Pictures Corporation), Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD), and SWFWMD/City Services Department (now City Manager’s Office), Bonita Springs became an official municipality with full powers under state law as well as full taxing power from Palm Beach County government. On May 1st 1909 Mayor JF McNamara organized what would become known as "the first municipal election" in which all registered voters were allowed to participate through secret ballots without cast paper ballots or presentations from candidates or party leaders; this event also served as an inauguration ceremony for mayor Snuffer and members of both Houses of the City Council later that year. In 1917 Mayor John Hargrave sponsored legislation providing for annexation of adjoining unincorporated areas eastward along State Road 809 into Bonita Springs Municipal jurisdiction; this occurred effective November 3rd that year. The growth evident throughout much of early 20th century led to increased housing demand in downtown areas adjacent to central business district while also causing challenges for newly created services like fire protection when dense residential neighborhoods sprung up immediately southwest along SR 809 across from CROSSROADS park boundary - these neighborhoods are now known collectively as South Broward . This resulted in several major arteries being rerouted near present day intersections Alafaya Trail/US Highway 441E & US Highway 192W when these routes were incorporated into new I-95A exit ramps leading into downtown . In 1959 – prior to opening day for Interstate 95A – [then ]County Commissioner Art Grimes proposed creating an expressway connecting downtown with south Broward via I-95A but it never materialized due primarily because significant opposition developed among apartment dwellers living near northbound I-95A between Edison Blvd & Sunrise Rd intersection ..... many residents still gripe about how their street names changed when they moved away ..… realignment plans currently underway will change some streets within town center while others will remain largely unchanged ....… today's version ol' BonitaSprings includes 2 blocks directly west o' Busch Gardens wit' Intaminado Park just beyond it.. Street renaming plans are ongoing thru 2020 so expect more changes over there
