Bonita Springs is located on US 98 north of Lake Okeechobee and east of Kissimmee. The first permanent residents in what is now Bonita Springs were Indian Chief Osceola and his wife Tamar who from 1786 to 1827 lived near present-day Apopka Boulevard and Kingston Road. A Miami-Dade County survey in 1892 identified 137 acres (53 ha) of land as being within the City limits which were annexed by the City on February 3, 1912. On October 15, 1914 businessman Wm Henson bought 1,300 acres (500 km2) south of downtown for $5 million dollars with an option to purchase an additional 1,500 acres (600 km2). He named the property "Henson's Hope" after his friend and business partner William Henson Jr.. The City purchased land adjacent to this property from Henson on December 21st 1915 for a total cost of $15 million dollars. On November 8th 1919 local physician John Pritchett donated land to the City for use as a park extending along Brevard Avenue from US 90 east to I-4 exit 323 (now Beltline Road). In 1923 citrus fruits became available for shipment through Mobile Bayou through Citrus Key railroad station just outside town on Stilts Island opposite Clearwater Beach. By 1930 there were warehouses and processing plants operated by Japanned company Kojima Brothers packing fruit leaves into crates about high that could be taken by boat across Mobile Bayou to Tampa or Jacksonville where they would be unloaded onto railway cars and delivered to markets around the country including Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City; Chicago; Dallas; Houston; San Francisco; Detroit; Albany NY; Redondo Beach CA.; Daytona Beach FL.; St Petersburg FL.; Gainesville GA.; Jupiter FL., among others From 1927 until 1949 when it closed due to World War II plant closure restrictions GULF PACKAGING CO., INC was one of several Japanese companies operating truckload fruit packing plants in Florida during that time period shipping all sorts of produce direct from Japan without having anything done in Florida except loading/unloading at Mobile Bayou Railroad Station

Bonita Springs, Florida is a small town located in Lee County, Florida. The population was 5,675 at the 2010 census. Bonita Springs is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. It is one of the most historically significant communities in Lee County. Bonita Springs was founded in 1892 by J.C. Spelman and his family. The community's name comes from Spanish words meaning "beautiful bay" or "prominent bay." It became an incorporated municipality on December 15, 1912. The first post office in Bonita Springs opened in 1903. In 1916, the name of the Post Office was changed to Bonita Springs to reflect its growing reputation as a bedroom community for Orlando's business and political leaders and their families. In 1932, Drury-Jones Paper Company moved its headquarters from Stonington to Bonita Springs after purchasing land there from Lucius Spiller Jr., father of citrus grower Lucius Spiller III who had also purchased land adjacent to what is now downtown Bonita Springs from Drury-Jones owner Jno Spiller Sr.. After World War II, businesses such as Hanes Clothing Store (1948), Sears Roebuck & Co.'s Department Store (1952), Miller Brewing Company (1979) and Orange Julius Restaurants Inc.—the first restaurant chain outside of Chicago—moved into townspeople houses built before that time on large lots donated by developers such as Harry Lunsford and Don Freeman along with Model T Fords given away by Ford Motor Company president Henry Ford II at a rally at Daytona Beach in 1944 attended by General Dwight Eisenhower and other top military leaders including Franklin D Roosevelt . In 1954, Main Street was widened from two lanes to four when it connected downtown with Belle Haven Drive which ran parallel to US 1/US 192 just north of Downtown Jacksonville; this widening followed a similar project that had been completed about 10 years earlier on US 1/Florida State Road 4A near present day Winter Garden Boulevard which linked Jacksonville with Sanford via US 1/Georgia Highway 20 east of Nowata Lake while bypassing downtown Jacksonville altogether . As more businesses moved into town during this time period new neighborhoods were developed such as Northlake Gardens housing developments off East Mango Avenue connecting Uptown with Bellehaven Drive while Southlake Gardens developed around Parklane Parkway off US 1/Southside Boulevard west of Uniontown Center; these areas were eventually absorbed into newer city districts including North Tampa district today’s Old District within City Hall boundaries while West Tampa district became part of Clearwater City limits today’s Bayfront District . In 1959–1960 Main Street between Bellehaven Drive and Parklane Parkway was reconstructed as a divided street running east-west with traffic lights at each intersection providing access both ways for buses service transporting students attending high school across University Boulevard southbound on Parklane Parkway concurrent with Amtrak train service traveling through town heading northbound on Bellehaven Drive; these improvements were followed up by another reconstruction project done in 1961–1962 adding an interchange at I-4 southbound exit ramp serving both University Boulevard southbound running parallel to I-4 westbound leading into Town Center then terminating at I-4 eastbound entering Downtown Jacksonville where students could cross I-4 going north or coming back down Interstate 4 going south before continuing onto University Boulevard west bound GO Transit bus stop serving University Blvd continuation past stops served by MARTA bus routes 318 (University Blvd./Iglesia Rd.), 327 (Bellehaven Dr./Iglesia Rd.), 350 (Clearwater Ave./Everett Rd.) all terminating near Weston Central Library serving much like current US Highways 17 & 190 Business Loop later Cedar Key Parkway currentlyserving oldest stop open since original construction date 1945 Bonilla Creek flows through the center of town forming one side and lined mostlyby live oak treesBluff Road runs perpendicular to main street bisecting it near its eastern terminus northwest corner formed when colonial road split from modern bluffs forms enlarged old defensive ditch
The first white settlers in Bonita Springs arrived in 1883. The town was founded on the site of what is now the Walmart shopping center. The area was originally called "Spanish Fort" because it served as a U.S. military garrison during the Spanish-American War. In 1924, the name of the town changed to its present form, after Mrs. Florence Ladd became the first woman mayor of Florida.
