In 1862 José Pérez established a meeting house on F Street near today’s Indian Wells Boulevard which continue to serve as Boca Raton’s primary cultural and social center today. In 1865 two brothers named Fernando (Fernando) Rivera purchased some low ground at what is now 101st Avenue Northeast and Atlantic Boulevard which would become known as Rivera's Landing due to its proximity to both rivers that crossed through it – the Intracoastal Waterway and Rivera's Creek/Riverwalk resort development right next door on Park Drive). This area eventually became known as "The Cove" due to its exposed coastal surroundings providing excellent nesting spots for avian species such as seagulls, herons, egrets, macaws etcetera during winter months when these areas were free from human encroachment). In 1868 an act was passed allowing foederati (Italian American rebels) who had sided with Confederate forces against the United States during the Civil War to remain in Florida after being pardoned by President Ulysses S Grant. In 1871 businessman John Wessel Calloway bought 2 acres adjoining F Street between Indian Wells Boulevard & Riverside Drive for $1 cash only days before Miami annexed alligator management territory east of US-1 Shortly thereafter he organized citrus growers localising themselves into three cooperative societies – Citrus Growers Cooperative Association No 1 (CGCA 1), Citrus Growers Cooperative Association No 2 (CGCA 2), & Coconut Grove Fruit Club Incorporated v/a Coconut Grove Grocery Stores Incorporated (PGFCI)). From here things started snowballing with Calloway establishing fruit packing stops throughout southFlorida primarily at Key West then moving inland towards downtown until he finally constructed his own large plantation complex at 6451 Gulfstream Lane NW just beyond today’s Everglades National Park boundary based upon acreage currently under cultivation including 948 trees yielding fruit valued at $225 million +/- produce grown per annum since 1915TM . With this success came increased competition leadingCalloway to sell most or all his holdings although remaining interests still comprise nearly 100%of cultivateable Area subject onlyto occasional deviations caused by changing market conditions)."
