Belle Glade, Florida is a small town in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater metropolitan area. Belle Glade is located on State Road 64 west of Clearwater Beach and east of St Petersburg. Belle Glade was founded in 1876 by J.P. Morgan and others as a sheep Ranch run by Mrs. Anna Wortham and her husband Drury Wortham() from Scotland for the Morgan family ranching interests in that area. Anna Wortham had also been born in Belle Glade in 1849 to Scottish parents who had settled thereabouts after immigrating to America during the American Revolution as farmers and cowboys under British rule. The community name derived from two nearby coves (Belle Coves) which were used for swimming and fishing by early residents along with an Old English word meaning "clear water." The first reference to Belle Glade appeared on a map dated 1889 when it was called "Buttermilk Cove." By 1895, Belle Glade had grown sufficiently that it became known as "Belle Gail" or simply "Gail". In 1906, Gail was renamed Belle Glade after Mrs. Lillian Hellman's maternal grandmother who also came from Scotland but died before her arrival in America; however, Hellman never visited Gail herself and no record exists of her doing so either! In 1912, local physician Drury Worthy established himself as a local figurehead dentist with office location at 2551 US-441 N just east of present day BelleGlade High School - then considered one of the leading high school districts in northern Florida! In 1928Drury Worthy married his daughter blanketing over 4000 acres including what is now present day Belle Isle within what would become incorporated as Belle Glades limits; this led to much speculation surrounding whether or not Blanket property lay beyond original township limits? However even today some believe that all or most of what lies within modern-day Belle Isle borough boundaries may actually date back to those earliest days! After World War II many families moved away from northwest Florida due largely to air pollution concerns arising out of Hiroshima/ Nagasaki bombings; however few left behind such prominent citizens as Drury Worthy who continued operations through both physical expansion into adjoining unincorporated communities until his death on January 9th 1984 at age 85 years young! The post-war decades brought about rapid population growth with many new homes being built right offSR 64W between Clearwater Beach & St Petersburg - making it one of the most rapidly growing areas around!. Jobs available included management positions with major corporations like Philips Electronics (now Raytheon) & Honeywell International(& their predecessors). Then Came Hurricane Alice which caused extensive damage primarily to homes situated near Gulfport/St Pete Airport - forcing many people living near SR 64W between Clearwater Beach & St Petersburg inland towards Lakeland where they could access more affordable land (& more job opportunities!). Today while still experiencing rapid growth rates (), much has changed since then including significant expansions into adjacent unincorporated communities providing expanded transportation options via SR 64W!!

Belle Glade, Florida is located in the Miami-Dade County region of South Florida. The settlement began as a small farming community in 1881, when settlers arrived from Illinois. By 1907, Belle Glade had grown to include a shopping center and several homes. In 1932, the town was renamed Belle Glade after its founder's daughter. The area now known as Belle Glade was first populated by Native Americans who hunted the local deer and turkey populations. They built their first villages at various points in the area during the early 1800s. After surveyingland around them for a government survey in 1819, General James Kossuth reported that there was no suitable spot for permanent human habitation within 10 miles of his army camp on Dixie Creek (now part of Miami-Dade County). The United States bought 1,000 acres (500 hectares) of land around Kossuth's camp for $2 per acre (1 guilder = 4 pence). This purchase created what is now Belle Glade Township and village site. Belle Glade developed slowly until 1907 when two brothers named Otto and Emil Frank purchased 320 acres (130 hectares) southeast of Belle Glade from Mr. Wasserstrom for $3 an acre ($10 to $15 per hectare). They started a small farm with corn, beans and potatoes until they met Harry Chandler who offered them 160 acres (60 hectares) north of Belle Glade on Park Lake which he had acquired through foreclosure proceedings conducted against John Ellerbeck Sr., one of Miami's leading landowners at that time. With this acquisition, Harry Chandler became one of the largest landholders in south Florida.
