Belle Glade, Florida is a small town located in Broward County, Florida. The population was 11,890 at the 2000 census. Belle Glade is one of two communities in Broward County that are considered "right-to-work." It is also home to the Belle Glade Country Club and the Belle Glade Golf Club. Belle Glade's economy depends on agriculture. The local landowner grows crops such as corn, soybeans, and peas; provides services such as lawn care and animal husbandry; and sells products made from these crops or bought by residents of Belle Glade or other areas statewide. Agricultural production has been vital to Belle Glade since its founding in 1892. In addition to agriculture, some of the town's industries include manufacturing (manufacturing products for local consumers), health care (including mental health treatment services), education (including elementary/middle school education and postsecondary education), transportation (mainly trucking), and service (such as plumbing). The original settlers who called Belle Glade "Belle" were French Canadians who had arrived in South Florida in the early 1800s. They named their new community after a nearby meadow where they saw flowers blooming during summertime. Today, many people still refer to BelleGlade as "the little village." After decades of growth, most of which took place outside of Belle Glades city limits, the City Council voted on February 9th, 2018 to annex all but 1/2 mile of rural territory northward from Uptown Boulevard between Northwest 16th Street and Northwest 59th Street into the Town limits! This annexation removed much needed open space for housing development within our city limits while creating an even more congested area with less opportunity for pedestrian access than what exists today within our boundaries! The annexed territory includes much valuable agricultural land that is currently un used because it falls within both City Limits & Town Limits! Despite this setback & embarrassing situation we are committed to working hard towards restoring lost property values so that all citizens have access to quality farmland near their homes!

Belle Glade, Florida is a small town located in Marion County, Florida. The population was 1,849 at the 2010 census. Belle Glade is home to the Belle Glade Naval Air Station and several schools including Belle Glade High School and Belle Glade middle school. The town also has a post office and an agricultural center. Belle Glade was founded in 1892 by J.W. White as a small farming community on Pensacola Bayou just east of what is now the city of Stuart. In 1907, the community became one of three communities within the new county of Marion created after Seminole County was divided into two parts by Governor John A. Burns in order to make more money for state coffers during the Panic of 1907. The early residents were African American slaves who had been brought over from Africa aboard ship "Pensacola" when it sailed into Tampa Bay in 1837 as part of General James Kenedy's invasion force seeking independence from Spain. When Pensacola fell to Spanish forces in 1841, many black slaves escaped or were bought back by their owners and arrived in what is now Belle Glade with their families. Many white settlers who had purchased land near Pensacola soon moved into central and eastern Marion County too, particularly around Mobile where they developed plantations that produced cotton (the first cotton gin was built there in 1794). By 1892, most of those original black settlers had left for good; only about 10% remained behind along Pensacola Bayou when J.W."White" established his own farmstead on land that he donated to the townspeople ten years earlier because he saw no other way for them to provide for themselves while he continued working on his plantation “up north” [in Mobile]. The first buildings erected here were a Methodist church (1892), Post Office (1907), Gristmill (1910), Blacksmith Shop/Grain Mill (1914), Agricultural Center (1982) – all still extant today! There are also several historical organizations active in this community which include: Historic District Board #2 which manages and oversees historic properties within its boundaries; OldMagnolia Tales storytelling group meets monthly at 7 p.m., each month features a different storybook character from history & mythology; Ivey Museum of Art presents 3-monthly exhibitions throughout year with rotating local artists exhibiting; United Daughters Auxiliary has contributed countless hours to various civic events through fundraising drives and social media participation…all without ever asking us for anything! UnexpECTed items found outside our property line every time we go out watering our plants have led us to believe that someone may have live here prior to our arrival! We eventually did find evidence that someone lived here prior to ours but chose not to tell us because they knew we would be interested! As far as Florida history goes, this particular community takes its very seriously!
Belle Glade was founded in 1892 by the Belle Glade Land Company. It became a city in 1925, and was named for Belle Isle, a small island near St. Petersburg. The area now known as Belle Glade was first inhabited by Creek Indians. In 1892, developers purchased 1,500 acres of land around Belle Glade from the Creek Indians for $3 per acre. The development began with the erection of initial buildings and the opening of a post office in 1893. By 1899, 1400 acres had been developed and annexed to the city limits. The original downtown business district at Belle Glade Avenue and Gulf Boulevard served as an important center for local commerce until 1954 when Interstate 495 (now I-75) came through town and cut off most effective commercial transportation options. Downtown Belle Glade gradually lost its importance over time as new businesses moved into nearby communities such as Clearwater or Zephyrhills while old businesses were converted into apartments or offices. However, there is still some evidence of downtown business activity including several small shops on Main Street which are open to the public today
