Mrs. Dupont had arrived in Jacksonville with her husband Wilfred Keyes Biddle on May 26, 1910 and purchased one thousand acres (0 hectares) of land east of Uptown Jacksonville which she renamed Belle Isle after their native Italy – an act that set off a series of land sales across Duval County that would form the nucleus for present day USF campus area bounded by US 1 on the north, SR 462 on the east, Mulberry Street on the south and De Soto Road on the west.
