So, the club started renting space from a local gun shop for themselves and gradually began to attract other members too. Today, the Belle Glade Pistol and Rifle Club is one of the largest firearms clubs in Broward County with over 100 members!

Belle Glade is located in central Lee County on State Road 318 (SR 318). SR 318 runs east-west and forms a loop around the community. The community has a total area of . The name Belle Glade comes from two sources: "Belle" (a French name meaning "beautiful") and "Glade" (a word meaning "woodland"). The first settler to arrive in 1892 was Henery Davenport, who named his new home Belle Glade after his daughter's nickname, Belle de la Plage. Belle Glade had its start as a stagecoach stop on the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale mail route. In 1893, when the railroad arrived in Lee County, it built its own station here on Railroad Street. By 1896, Belle Glade had become an important transportation hub for people traveling between Fayetteville and Daytona Beach along SR 318 and by 1907 it had even become an important medical center with its own hospital and dispensary. This growth continued until World War II when all but one of Belle Glade's businesses closed due to wartime rationing of goods. However, many residents were able to rebuild their homes or open up their businesses after the war ended; this included restaurateur Harry Crenshaw who reopened his namesake restaurant on Main Street in 1951 after moving from New York City five years earlier. Afterward, rapid postwar growth led to increased school enrollment which necessitated more space for students at nearby Osceola High School so that classes could be held inside during bad weather conditions or holiday recess periods; however also new housing development began popping up all over town which caused traffic congestion onSR 318 during peak hours – much like it does today! In 2002, following approval from voters via referendum ballot measure,[1] construction began on what would become Belterra Place - one of the most high-end shopping districts in Central Florida – just across SR 321 from Belle GlADE! The original concept called for 775 acres of mixed use redevelopment including retail/commercial/residential/public square land; however due to funding difficulties[2], only 144 acres have been completed as of 2016! The name "Belle Glade" comes from Belle Isle, which is an island in Lake Okeechobee. Belle Glade was established in 1892 as a plantation by German immigrants to help with production of sugarcane on the then undeveloped island. In 1907 it became a city under charter from the County of Miami and grew rapidly as a bedroom community for affluent residents of South Florida. The economy slowed around World War II but restarted after the war as more people moved into Belle Glade and other parts ofMiami-Dade County. Growth accelerated again in the early 21st century as new housing developments were constructed in Belle Glade and nearby Coral Springs and Boca Raton communities due to increasing job opportunities in both areas during downtown Miami's rapid growth period (2000-2010). The history of Belle Glade goes back many years before that when its founders arrived from Germany looking for land to farm. They found what they were looking for on what is now Belle Isle - an uninhabited island located just offshore from South Beach on Biscayne Bay. After some initial construction challenges, such as getting accurate measurements, they managed to get their plantation up and running quickly enough that they christened their new enterprise "Belle Isle." But even though their Plantation had some success raising crops and selling them heretofore unknown quantities all over southern Florida, it wasn't until later that they realized how valuable this little piece of paradise really was: right next door to one of South Beach's most famous landmarks...the ocean! And so they began developing this lovely chunk o' heaven into one hellacious acreage...adding more homes, businesses, industries and jobs until today there are more than 2 dozen structures standing tall within walking distance or less of any major action center anywhere near Ft Lauderdale/Miami International Airport! Today's residents not only enjoy access to world class privileges like perfect weather year round but also feel richly connected through daily interactions with each other thanks to our beloved schools (Acreage Community School District), churches (First Baptist Church & Trinity Episcopal) and hospitals (University Medical Center).
