The community was named for Anna Belle's maternal grandmother, Belle Glade. In 1926, the community erected a municipal building which still stands today. The town has a population of just over 9,000 people as of 2010. Belle Glade is home to the Belle Glade Riflemen Shooting Club which hosts competitions and rifle matches throughout the year. This club also provides instruction to local youth on how to shoot firearms. In addition to its shooting club activities, Belle Glade also boasts an annual Pumpkin Festival which features art contests and food from local restaurants.
