Belle Glade, Florida is home to one of the largest and most diverse collections of binoculars in the world. The Belle Glade Museum of Glass has been collecting and displaying binoculars since 1881. The museum has over 2,000 pieces from around the world. In 1916, a man named Harry Hagerty bought a small parcel of land adjacent to Belle Glade Golf Course and began to build his own glass collection. He soon realized that he could not sell his collection because it was considered unpatriotic to do so. So, he decided to keep it all himself and built a more extensive collection on his property known as Hagerty’s Glass House. In 1935, American president Franklin D. Roosevelt visited Belle Glade and donated several thousand binoculars to the town for use by local schools. Today, Belle Glade still uses these binoculars for educational purposes as well as enjoying natural beauty around its perimeter!

This means that most homes here have hurricane protection systems in place and very few houses are actually destroyed by Hurricanes Ike or Sandy; rather they suffer only minor damage which can be fixed quickly and easily with some judicious repairs and painting done while still standing without knocking down any walls.

At its peak, the population of Belle Glade was more than 10,000 people. The community developed around two railroad stations – Belle Glade Station on the Union Pacific Railroad and Belle Glade Landing on the Jacksonville-St Petersburg Railway. In 1915, Belle Glade became a city and began to grow rapidly. It has since lost some of its streetcar traffic but it remains a popular location for retirement homes and other businesses. The history of Belle Glade goes back to 1887 when Augustus BelleGlade settled in this area as part of what is now Clearwater County. He established himself as a landowner in what is now Clearwater County with holdings that stretched from Key Largo to St Petersburg and north to Sarasota Beach. From his farmstead at BelleGladeland, he grew cotton until railroads arrived in 1885 and changed his business forever. With railroads came new opportunities for development: developers bought up land near central Clearwater Township so they could build hotels, stores, schools, churches and other businesses; plans were made for an expressway through the township that never materialized; citrus production boomed thanks to cheap labor imported from Spain; transportation improved with the opening of highways such as Interstate 95; agricultural production continued until World War II when Hurricane Andrew destroyed most crops statewide. In 1915, after being annexation into Pinellas County (then part of Tampa), Beaufort County (now Sarasota) created an independent municipality named after AugustusBelleGladeday residents who had voluntarily joined their neighborsto formthe new municipality during annexation proceedings process days earlier! Residents had elected not to become cityspeople because they wanted control over their own affairs rather than sharing services with fellow homeowners from PinellasCountyorsa warning sign at timeofincorporation that’s still visible today along Shore Road just westof downtown Beaufort! By 1920 almost all residents living within tracks of either Pratt Street or 16th Avenue south were registered voters in City Hall where theycontinuedtoelect officials until disbandedin 1935when Beaufort annexed again intoTampa! As with any large community changesover timeitwasnotuntil 1959thatBellegladdestartedtoexperience rapid gentrification witnessed by journalists thenewspapercoverageofthedevelopmentknownasinBelleGladewater whichledthespontaneous cleanupeffort beginningin1960andleadingtothe eventualdestructionofthecommunityfollowingafairin1972! Today only a few historic buildings remain standing including City Hall dating back to 1914which retains majorityofitsoriginalfeaturescompletewithbelltower topologyandalounger builtinthe1990s intothe memoryofthespontaneousactivitiesofthedevelopmentbeforeit gradually fellinto disrepair!
