Today's downtown area has been largely unchanged since its incorporation as a town more than 120 years ago; much of what remains today can be found thanks to conservation efforts undertaken by locals over that time period including creating buffer zones around important federal land holdings while also preserving significant historic structures like the original courthouse which still stands today (although recently renovated).
