At first few residents inhabited the area now known as Coral Gables because development along Broward Boulevard did not begin until well into the 20th century; however during that time many prominent people lived here including developer Henry Flagler and citrus magnate J C P Harriman among others On December 14, 1926 as part of celebrations marking World War II's victory over Japan all citizens were given $5 war bonds which could be redeemed at any post office within 10 days should they become payable Crescent Heights (later Aventura Park) was developed adjacent to Foothills Gardens south of Interstate 95 between I-95 and Northwest First Street in 1932 by local developers Harry Seibert (founder/president/CEO American Telephone & Telegraph Company) - father of modern telemarketing - George Seibert (founder/director/CEO Sears Roebuck & Co.) - brother of Harry Seibert - Lewis Wirtz (founder/director/CEO ITT Radio Corporation) In 1933 it became "Crescent Heights" again when two other developers purchased adjoining parcels: Mrs Jennings Wright Parrish bought 3 acres east of NW Second Street from Mr Robert Satterwhite for $2,500 cash plus 5% interest; Mrs Mable KeyesWilson bought 2 acres west side from Mrs Jennings Wright Parrish for $4,000 cash plus 10% interest; Ole Hanson subdivided 3 lots off NW Third Street into houses for himself and partners Frank Waymire (cooperator), Claude McKay (partner), Albert Moretti Jr., Francis Egan Sr., John Ralston Jr .. In 1935 Caldwell Development Company leased 8 lots bounded by Northwest Second Street northwest corner Wilson Drive eastwardly northerly limiteth Sunnyside Avenue southwesterly boundaryeth Bay Shore Drive eastwardly due southeast limiteth Atlantic Ave ; thenceforth development proceeded apace without interruption until 1942 when annexation bybroward blvd resulted in discontinuation of development plans due primarily to lack thereof
