There have been many shootings that have taken place in this small town, and it is still used as a shooting range today. The first gun to be used in Aventura was an American rifle called the Winchester Model 1892.
Aventura, Florida is a town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,512 at the 2010 census. Aventura is the cultural and economic center of south-central Miami-Dade County. It is also the location of most of the county's major shopping malls and other commercial centers. The name "Aventura" comes from two Spanish words: "avernos," meaning "to shelter" or "to keep warm," and "tura," meaning "place." The first settlers in what is now Aventura were Spanish Americans who landed on October 12, 1875, looking for land that would be their new home after purchasing 3 acres (10 km²) of land from José Martínez de la Torre. The first store in Aventura was opened by Juana Dominguez on December 4, 1876. By 1897 there were 10 stores in town with a population of about 100 people. In 1915 a post office was established at Aventura with mail service only to Boca Raton until 1918 when it received its own ZIP code. In 1925 Anson Mills Inc., started production of cotton ginners' yarn here at the old Anson Millrace site which became one of America's largest textile companies through acquisition by Sam Woolworth Co in 1928; however Sam sold it back to Anson Mills four years later when he merged his company into Sears Roebuck & Co., although some remnant operations continued until 1977 as part of Sears Holdings Corporation's plan to divest itself of more than 60 U.S.-based retail businesses including Sears Canada and Kmart International before going public). (In 1924 Sam Woolworth Company built world’s largest cotton ginnery on an 860 acre site west of downtown Aventura.) In 1927 Pabst Brewing Company moved its brewing operations from Milwaukee to make Waycross beer available throughout South Florida; however due to Prohibition Pabst closed its brewery here permanently in 1933.(Pabst Brewery building still stands across street from present day Walmart.) In 1938 TWA Airlines began flying passengers between Miami Beach and Tampa Airport.; however due to World War II TWA grounded all planes at MIA because they could not find any suitable runways nearby so all flights took place outbound over Okeechobee Lake until 1949 when they finally reopened using adjacent Homestead Air Force Base runway which had been closed during WWII as part Southeastern Test Range). Finally almost 50 years later Hurricane Irma knocked out power to most areas around here so much so that many stores had no lights or running water; fortunately very few if any buildings sustained damage! One local business did have significant damage especially their roof being extensively damaged but eventually repaired/replaced without cost! The area that would become Aventura was originally inhabited by the Calusa people. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Aventura were Spanish explorers in 1565, led by Hernando de Soto. They named the place "Venturas" after their captain's wife, Vera Cruz. Aventura began as a small town on the banks of Lake Kissimmee, south of downtown Orlando. In 1907, developers built a large shopping center on what would become First Avenue North and Third Street East. When World War II began, Aventura turned into an important military base with its many barracks and airfields. After the war ended, development slowed until The Walt Disney Company bought much of downtown for $258 million in 1956. That year saw the opening of Disneyland and other expansions within Disney Parks around the world (including Aventura). Aveneture experienced rapid growth during this time; it reached its current size with over 10,000 residents by 1970. However, during the late 1990s and early 2000s there were several controversial developments along First Avenue North – including a pair of high-rise buildings that blocks views of Central Park from most parts of town; and an apartment complex known as "The Gables". These projects increased traffic congestion and caused environmental damage to adjacent properties which continues to impact Aveneture today: One building still stands empty while another has been converted into office space.;

Aventura became a U.S. territory on February 14, 1821, and it was organized into a county on November 13, 1825. The town of Aventura sprang up around this time, and it became an important commercial center for the region.
