In 1870, Ulysses S Grant played baseball for one inning against Spanish missionary team at Old Fort Ybor (now Ybor City) before leaving for Havana to serve as President; his ballplayer’s mare, Nellie Ohlendorf captained by Hiram Walker stopped playing that day at Waveland Park on Lake Ybor while Grant walked off her back to Yankee Stadium following his successful game Aventura initially consisted of just three buildings: Mission House (now called the “Old Spanish Missions” Museum), Father Manuel Aguilar Chapel (later called José María Escobar Chapel), which served as both church and school until around 1900, and Ponce de Leon Hotel which opened in 1898 on Front Street between 8th Avenue South and Seventh Street South It wasn’t until 1925 that Aventura officially became an incorporated municipality when it annexed portions ofindero Beach including portions now known as Westchester Village In 1951, Aventura annexed what are now northeastern Wilderness County precincts including Belleair , Belleview Heights , Cloudy Key & Harbor View . These annexation developments were made possible by passage of legislation entitled “An Act To Annex Certain Areas within Wilderness County” authored by then-Congressman Rayburn et al.. On July 1st 1959 saw another annexation development when Broward County annexing Cedar Hill Village This event also marked the beginning of suburban growth along much older infrastructure stretching southward from downtown Miami towards Anna Maria Island
