Auburndale is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,719 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in Auburndale were three men from Scotland who arrived in 1827 and named their community after their home country. The original post office was called "Auburn" and was established on May 10, 1829. In 1840, the name of the post office changed to "Auburn Heights". On December 1, 1847, the name of Auburndale changed to "Auburn", after Augustus Cottage which had been built by Colonel George Sherman near Auburn Meadows on Duval Street. In 1865, two brothers-in-law founded what would become one of America's largest citrus companies: Wm Haggerty & Sons Citrus Growers Incorporated. They developed a large orchard that produced oranges and other vegetables for local markets and for shipment to New York City and other parts of the U.S.. The company grew rapidly until it went public in 1924 and merged with another citrus grower shortly thereafter to form J&J Eats Industries Incorporated (later renamed PEP). The plant closed in 1978 but portions of it have been preserved as part of a National Register Historic District since 1984. Today much of this property is used for agricultural purposes while some remains owned by PEP as an educational complex with research facilities related to horticulture; including a nursery school capable of training teachers to care for fruit trees. There are also several residences located onsite dating back to 1925/26 when most residents worked at Wm Haggerty & Sons Citrus Growers Incorporated or neighboring businesses providing services such as lawn care or restaurant work during off hours; many still do so today!

During World War II, many residents worked on naval vessels docked at Jacksonville Naval Shipyard on Jacksonville Bayou before being transported to various war zones around the world via submarine submarines under Project Neptune (1943-1945). Some of these workers remain permanently connected with the city through numerous businesses along Riverwalk Avenue within walking distance of their homes today including Jax SUPs & More, Sinker’s Cove Bowling Alley and USS Big Erector Museum gift shop which features memorabilia from Project Neptune victims from throughout Jacksonville Bayou area including items such as uniforms and badges from local gunnery schools where some students served during World War II . On October 12th 1920 about 400 people living near what is now downtown made a covenant called “The United Bible Societies” also known as Jubilee Baptist Church which started out with just 10 members but soon grew into one of largest congregations west of Mississippi before disbanding due to lack of leadership and financial difficulties in 1935 when there were over 1 million Baptists in America alone! The first building on Main Street between Courtlandt Avenue N/S and Fifth Street W now houses Duval County Historical Library!!

In 1835, Auburndale was founded by Captain James Wilkinson and his wife Anne. The Wilkinson family came from the town of Yarmouth in England. They built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the Broad River. Captain Wilkinson named the community after himself and his wife, Anne. In 1839, they moved to their current location and began farming land around the bluff. The first school was built in 1840 byCaptain Wilkinson's son Alfred. A grist mill was also built in 1841. In 1847,Captain Wilkinson died and was buried at Auburndale Cemetery. In 1904,Auburndale became a city and is now part of Miami-Dade County
