Auburndale is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. Auburndale was founded in 1892 by John A. Auburndale and his wife Sarah W. Auburndale as an agricultural community on a tract of land that now includes much of present-day Auburndale and parts of Plant City and Dunnellon. The name "Auburn" had been given to the town by Andrew Jackson for its resemblance to an Auburn tree found near Gainesville in Seminole County; this tree had been locally known as "The Tree from Over There." In 1898, John A. Auburndale donated two miles (3 km) of what are now Main Street and Cemetery Road to the city of Jacksonville to allow easier access for people living in Jacksonville's rapidly growing city center. In 1909, Mollie Broughton became president of State College Hospital which then merged with Jacksonville General Hospital forming one large hospital complex called Jaguars Memorial Hospital Complex Incorporated (later renamed University Health System). This complex included both State College Hospital and Jacksonville General Hospital which were located on separate campuses within the original school district boundaries; however, these campuses remained associated with each other through various systems including insurance, billing and patient care until their eventual merger in 2006 into one large system under University Health System umbrella. In 1926, local resident Harry Pritchard developed what is today known as Pritchard Park after buying land adjacent to what is now Main Street in 1924; this property served as the beginning point for development around main street with later developments branching out into all directions including north onto I-95/Umatilla River Boulevard east onto North Avenue south onto Airport Boulevard west onto current Main Street where it terminated at its terminus before continuing downcurrent towards Pritchard Park across US 1/US 4th Avenue until reaching its southern border at Grayson Avenue just beyond current US 1/StateRoute 82 boundary line southbound US 1 exit 85 southbound SR 82 exit

Auburndale, Florida was founded in 1837 by James Auburndale. The town was named after the Auburndales, who were natives of Ireland. The first settlers arrived in small groups and began to build homes around 1838. By 1840, the population had reached 100 people and a school was built. The town continued to grow and by 1848, it had a post office and two stores. In 1850, the first railroad came through the area and Auburndale became an important Village. In 1861, a public library was built and in 1865, the first church was built. From 1870-1930, the residents of Auburndale worked in agriculture or supported themselves with some form of trade or industry. During this time period there were no majorupsets within the community and most residents lived happily ever after. In 1930, when Hurricane Andrew passed through Florida as part of its path towards Miami Beach Irma caused extensive damage to many businesses throughout central Florida including AubURndALE! At least $200 million worth of property damage occurred which destroyed many homes, businesses and infrastructure including schools that never reopened; however despite all this destruction much like alwaysy good people kept their smile on while they cleaned up what they could before returning back home to rebuild - typical Floridians! It wasn't until September 2nd when Irma made landfall causing even more devastation as well as power outages for days that manycommunity members finally got back on their feet! After weeks of hard work (and LOTS OF FUN!) everyone in town returned home proud winners!
