Auburndale, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Auburndale began as a small agricultural community in today's Auburndale Township on the banks of the St Johns River. In 1892, A. H. Booth developed an orchard and market complex on what is now University Drive which became known as "Booth's Corner." In 1916, when Auburndale township was set off from Polk County and incorporated into it as a separate municipality, A. H. Booth donated land to build a high school and housing for teachers and students on College Boulevard (now Old College Road). The first building was dedicated in 1922; it was replaced in 1978 by the current structure which has been home to the school since its founding. On May 4th, 1924 Auburndale Township voters passed a resolution designating June 15th as "Auburn Day". In 1957 Auburndale voters adopted Resolution No 2 asking Congress not to pass any new taxes without their consent because they felt that government was taking away too much from people's ability to live honestly and fairly within their means while enriching those who had moneyed themselves through business success or political connections. This caused some commotion in town though no real damage resulted from what seemed like an orchestrated publicity campaign by opponents of taxation reform among people who were simply concerned about how such measures could be used to unfairly burden them again throughout history - something that had happened before but with far more significant consequences for all involved than anything currently going on here today! -On November 5th of that year local law enforcement responded to reports of two men fighting just outside of town Limits near US Highway 278 just after midnight local time - one man had been stabbed multiple times including once through his heart and lungs while the other man fought back with fists until he was subdued by deputies using only hand held weapons until backup arrived; both men were pronounced deceased at the scene! Naval Air Station Pensacola (NAS) began operations at NAS Afton Field in 1942 and became one of America's most important naval air stations; it remains operational today as NAS Pensacola Flying Training Command (FTC). The town received its name change from "Afton" to "Pensacola" in 1957 when Escambia County annexed parts of Santa Rosa County including what is now Auburndale. In addition to NAS Pensacola and FTC Pena Hill AFB also serve as military facilities with various purposes such as storage, airfields/missiles testing & training etc., while Plantation Hills School offers pre-kindergarten through 12th grade education inside an all-weather building downtown since 1949 which includes an outdoor playground complete with lifeguards that provide physical education opportunities for children living within walking distance of school sites across three districts: district I - east side of river; district II - west side of river; district III - north side of river
