In 1909, Auburndale had two churches: oneMethodist and one Baptists. The original school building which served as both the public school and high school were replaced by two new buildings on Main Street in 1951-1952 which served as both schools until they were closed together in 2002 due to budget cuts when then- Mayor Bob Gaines consolidation of all local government into Tallahassee gave the town an overabundance of bureaucrats so much so that only 1/3 of its funding came from sales tax (the other two thirds come from state coffers). Auburndale has experienced many growth phases since its incorporation including becoming a bedroom community for downtown Tallahassee; later becoming more rural; recent years have seen rapid growth again with annexations across central Polk County; and now being back to its early days characterized by larger lots but limited development opportunities due to lack of money or interest from developers. Today Auburndale continues to grow despite many challenges facing small towns such as population loss due to retirement or moving out-Large families are not common here because property values are higher elsewhere adjacent to bigger developments; there is little nightlife or retail options outside the larger subdivisions although some new businesses have started up recently including convenience stores, gas stations, etc.; however this may change soon with plans for redevelopment around Interstate 95

Auburndale is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola-Ft. Walton Beach-Orlando Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Auburndale was Father Manuel de Jesús in 1763. The area that now includes Auburndale was among the earliest Spanish settlements in Florida and became known as "El Rancho de las Flores" (the ranch of flowers). On July 12, 1821, Jacksonville boatman James McLaughlin chartered the brig USS Pembroke to transport goods from Havana to Pensacola and named it after Auburdale on October 3rd when he anchored off the town's wharf. In 1847, A&P grocery store Owner John Fenton built a two story brick building on what is now US 31st Street which still stands today as a local landmark and museum complex called The Fenton Museum of American History and Culture. The store closed its doors for good in 1984 but reopened as an artifact museum with new exhibits in 2003 with original merchandise from A&P’s heyday including clothing, kitchen items and more In 1907 Auburndale Male Lyceum opened under then Mayor Wm Clements with classes for boys ranging from 8th grade through high school that met until 1945 inside City Hall on Enterprise Avenue near present day US 41st Street . Classes moved to Ladd Middle School afterwards before finally closing down in 1951 because of lack of enrollment The Women’s Auxiliary American Legion also had their post office here at 5th & Market Streets from 1922 until 1957 In 1946 current Mayor Jeffry Siegel opened up his own petting zoo called Jigsaw Park which featured animals like giraffes, camels and horses along with many other attraction such as a children’s play yard complete with swingset
