Auburndale is a town in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,567 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Auburndale goes back to 1868 when cattle were brought to this area by W. H. Sibley and others from Texas. In 1870, the first school was built in what is now the town center and remained in use until 1974 when it was replaced by Auburndale Middle School which served students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Auburndale has been home to a variety of businesses over its long history including a grocery store (1914), post office (1870), bank (1890), car dealership (1910), textile mill (1915-1996), meatpacking plant (2003-present) and many more since its incorporation as a town in 1934.
