In 1955, Gulfstream Park opened its doors with 1,500 acres of swampy land along State Road A1A between US-4 and I-95 overlooking Ft Myers Harbor which became one of America's leading theme parks with more than 100 attractions including an aquarium (the world's largest), three waterfalls (the world's largest), several amusement rides including Peter Pan 3000 roller coaster and associated Worlds Fair features such as a Ferris wheel (largest in Tampa Bay)and two Tilt-A-Whirls; both were newly designed by Don Thomas who also designed Universal Studios' Harry Potter ride Riddle Arena attraction successfully debuting at that park in 1984 before moving on to otherpark projects including Islands Of Adventure - Orlando!
