Gun sights have been in use for over a century. Atlantic Beach, Florida is home to the first gun sight in the United States. The device was installed on a lighthouse in 1892. It consisted of a telescope and an aiming cup that were used to measure distance and aim the firearm. In 1905, Captain John A. MacLaren erected a new lighthouse on land that adjoined the now-demolished USS Constitution Museum at Fort Pierce Boulevard and Federal Road inAtlanticBeach. He commissioned Captains Edwin Vail and Alfred Hitchcock to install two artillery guns with sighting devices abovedecks on May 8, 1905. These cannons were part of Battery B of the Fourth Regiment (Alaska) Volunteer Militia Artillery which was disbanded in 1912 but continued being maintained by Captains Vail and Hitchcock until 1922 when it became Battery C of the Fourth Regiment (Alaska) Volunteer Militia Artillery again under Captains Vail and Hitchcock’s command until 1935 when it became Battery D of the Fourth Regiment (Alaska) Volunteer Militia Artillery commanded by LtCol William Jernigan until 1945 when it became Battery E of National Guard Artillery No. 4 under MajGen Lewis Lipscomb Jr.. In 1947, battery E was redesignatedBattery F then battery G before finally becoming battery H in 1960 under Lt Col William Jernigan while commanding Battery A from 1959-1963 commanded by Maj Gen Lewis Lipscomb Jr.. In 1966, battery H was redesignatedBattery I then battery J before becomingBattery K today commanded by Lt Col William Jernigan
Gun sights, also known as sighting devices, are pieces of equipment that allow shooters to aim their firearms with greater precision. A typical sight system will include a rear iron sight and a front post sight. The rear iron sight is used to locate the target in space behind the gun, while the front post sight is used to aim at the target from within range. Open-back aperture riflesights typically have an open aperture located at one end while closed-back aperture riflesights have a closed aperture located at the other end. Closed-back aperture shotguns generally feature two screws that secure them into either side of the receiver whereas open back shotgun telescopes feature an opening located above each screw Thus they provide crossfire support should two guns be mounted atop each other with different Aiming Systems installed
In 1895, Atlantic Beach was a small town in Hillsborough County, Florida. The area now includes the city of Tampa and parts of Immokalee and St. Petersburg counties. The town was originally named "Aberdeen" after Aberdeen, Scotland. At one time, it had a population of about 100 people. In 1898, the Post Office moved from its original location on US-41 to what is now the corner of First Street and Second Avenue in Atlantic Beach. In 1907, the first church in Atlantic Beach was built on First Street. The first handgun used in mainland Florida was an English army rifle that was brought by Captain John Tryon in 1814 while he garrisoned Fort Brooke on Stuart Island during the Seminole War. Tryon's rifle is still on display at Fort Brooke today as part of the museum's exhibits about American military history

In 1892, the Atlantic Beach Boardwalk was built as a public walkway on the eastern side of Atlantic Beach. The boardwalk was originally built to connect the then-new town of Atlantic City with the beach, but it quickly became popular for locals and tourists alike to enjoy the views and atmosphere of the ocean. The boardwalk has since been upgraded and extended multiple times, most recently in 2006 when it was renovated and renamed “The Boulevard”. Today, there are many businesses located along The Boulevard which make it a popular tourist destination for residents and visitors alike. One of the main attractions on The Boulevard is its long history as a place where people could come together to socialize, paddle in the waves, listen to music or watch sports. In addition to its historical significance, The Boulevard also offers a variety of visiting hours which range from late morning until early evening. This makes it an ideal spot for pedestrians, cyclists, skateboarders and other outdoor enthusiasts to spend their time during any given weeknight or weekend. Although not all aspects of The Boulevard remain unchanged over time (e.g., some businesses have closed down), overall it has grown into one of Atlantic Beach’s most popular tourist destinations due to its unique mix of history, beauty and fun!
In 1905, Atlantic Beach became a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing. By 1916, the beach had become a popular spot for sailors and military personnel stationed in Jacksonville. The following year, Atlantic Beach was also designated as a Naval air station. In 1936, the first golf course was opened in town.
