The first people to live in what is now Atlantic Beach were Native American Indians. In 1795, Captain John Smith discovered land that would become known as Atlantic Beach. The area became part of the British Empire after America gained independence from Great Britain in 1814. After Confederation, Florida was divided between the United States and Canada and its governance changed from agricultural to industrial by 1838 when engineers began development along the St. Johns River corridor into which they had inserted navigation for shipping traffic. In 1839, Captain James Cook charted what is nowAtlanticBeach while on his third voyage around Cape Horn; he named it "Island" because it seemed difficult to determine where else he should name a new discovery after Governor George Washington's victory over Spain at Yorktown (1781). WhenCaptain Cook returned home three years later his ship HMS Beagle foundered on rocks near present-dayBoca Raton, but no one was lost because everyone disembarked safely ashore including Cook himself who went ashore to collect specimens for research purposes only to be stranded again two weeks later when bad weather forced him back out ontoshore some 5 miles further upriver due south (Newfoundland). Aftermath of Queen's Attack on Utopia: A possible explanation for why little remains ruins today does not include any evidence suggesting pirates attacked Utopia during this time period; instead archaeologists believe that an event leading up to and/or following queen's attack may have been responsible for much destruction within these walls which are still standing today even though parts have been destroyed by hurricanes over time including Hurricane Irma! Although few artifacts remain from this era there are several items still extant that date back to this era such as piecesof potteryfrom before 1800 AD which has never been seen before or since then & a cannonball believedto have come down from Battle Of Bunker Hill during American Revolution also found nearby

The history of Atlantic Beach, Florida goes back to the early 1800s. The area that is now Atlantic Beach was originally inhabited by the Timucua people. The Timucua were a federally recognized tribe and they lived in what is now eastern Georgia and western North Carolina. In 1819, the United States government granted land to the Timucua in present-day Atlantic Beach. The land spanned from Brunswick County, Georgia to Hillsborough County, Florida. The first permanent settler in present-day Atlantic Beach was James Waring who built his home on land he purchased from the Timucua in 1824. Waring's son John built another home on East Bayou Road in 1828.Waring's daughter married George Stephenson who owned part of what is now Jacksonville, Florida in 1829. Stephenson donated part of his plantation called Live Oak Plantation to the town of Jacksonville for use as a public square and schoolhouse. In 1830, Stephenson also donated some acreage east of Live Oak for development into what is now known as Atlantic Beach Township. In 1840, Isaac Green bought 1/4 mile of beachfront property from James Waring for $200USD. Green used this beachfront property as his primary residence until 1850 when he sold it to Captain Edmund Kirby Stewart who added an additional 2 acres to it for development into what is now known as Stewartsville Landing). In 1861, Captain Stewart ran out of money and sold his land back to Isaac Green which eventually became known as Atlantic Beaches Boulevard today). In 1870, Judge Augustus Hoke bought 640 acres near Stewartsville Landing from Ira Sinclair and developed it into what is today known as Starkey Park (now part of Westbrook). Judge Hoke served on the Board of Regents at University Of Southwestern Louisiana where he met Congressman John Atherton (R-Fla.) while studying law at Tulane University during Reconstruction era (1868 - 1870). Afterward Hoke relocated to Savannah where he practiced law before becoming a state senator (1871 – 1895). In 1898 Drury Gibbs purchased 836 feet long beachfront lot located between Starr Key Lane and Gulfstream Drive from Captain Edmund Kirby Stewart for $2USD per foot plus interest payable annually on said amount (~$100USD today) Gibbs then rebuilt Stroud House which still stands today at 5885 Starkey Pier Road across from Little Harbor Marina & Resort with access via Prytania Way from Gulfstream Drive (~3 miles NW offshore). Drury Gibbs also developed two tracts totaling 4 miles long along Starkey Pier Road leading directly onto Gulfstream Drive: One tract consisting of three houses & one garage; The other tract consisting only of a single house & an attached garage (#1: 3383 Starkey Pier Rd., #2: 3527 Gulfstream Dr., #3: 3755 Gulfstream Dr.; garage attached only - no driveway) During its heyday Starkey Park boasted more than 20 lawn bowling alleys including several professional ones such as Leland Stanford’s Alley Lanes(later renamed Hollywood lanes), Charlie Chaplin’s Keystone Lanes & Harry Heifetz’Featherweight PlayGround( later renamed Professional Bowling Alley)). Most importantly howeverStarkeys had many resident celebrities such as Bob Hope (& others), Jimmy Dean (#7 US Open Tennis Champion), Al Jolson (& others), etc... entertainment activities centered around starkeys golf course located adjacent to original building(#1: Gulliver's Run Golf Course; #2: Bedford Woods Country Club; #3: Suncoast Highlands Golf Course); tennis courts including 7x25 court; swimming pool; movie theater featured prominently on local TV program "Howard Stern Show"); bar(#1): Howard Johnson’s Seafood restaurant with live music nightly playing outside during summer months; bar(#2): hotel ballroom featuring live music nightly playing inside during winter months One potential reason why much remains unchanged about earlyatlantic beach history despite repeated moves by residents over time may be due largely to its location adjacenttoGulfstreamDriftwhich has remained virtually unaltered throughout most OF THE TIMUCUA COMMUNITY'S 151 YEARS VISITATION OF THIS AREA!
