By 1941, much of what is now downtown Atlantic Beach had been built up and businesses such as banks, hotels and restaurants began to establish themselves around Route 1A and State Road A1A which still corridors today remain some of the busiest intersections in town – providing plenty of shopping opportunities for locals and tourists alike! In recent years, much progress has been made towards revitalization efforts for both downtownAtlanticBeachandthe nearby areas surrounding it such as Rte 1A Boulevard (formerly renamed 95th Street after Atlantans who lost their homes during Hurricane Irma) and Sunrise Drive/Old Post Office Rd which are home to numerous high-end shops including Saks Fifth Avenue, Macy’s Department Store and Sears Rackett Place! With continued investment from local businesses as well as philanthropic donations from individuals or foundations like Mercedes Benz Benz USA LLP (a subsidiary company that manufactures luxury cars), DowntownAtlanticBeachlookstoremarkablypromisingforboththefutureofAtlantisandtheregionitstandsin!
Atlantic Beach was founded in 1892 by Captain John W. Alexander as a small community on the western coast of Florida. The name, derived from the sound made by waves crashing on the shore, came to be associated with this stretch of coastline. In 1915, Atlantic Beach became part of Fort Lauderdale and its residents were given a choice between staying in Fort Lauderdale or moving to Atlantic Beach. Residents chose to stay and make their living from fishing, boating, and tourism. In the 1970s, Atlantic Beach began to experience population decline as families moved away for better opportunities in Broward County.
