Apopka, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. It is located about 22 miles (35 km) north of Tampa and about 34 miles (51 km) southwest of Orlando. The land that now Apopka was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1800s. In 1827, Captain John Logue and his party surveyed the area and discovered what would become Apopka Creek. A post office called "Apopka" was established in 1836, and continued to be used until 1905. In 1881, Benjamin Fenton built a sawmill on the creek. By 1902, Apopka had two churches - First Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church - a school and a Methodist Episcopal church. The mill closed in 1958 due to financial difficulties. The northeast corner of Apopka Township was developed as an oil field in the 1930s; however, there are no physical evidence of this activity apart from some crude oil wells nearby which have since been abandoned. In 1951, part of Farmington Hills business district west of I-75 became known as "Apopka", after its annexation by Apopka Township from Miami Gardens within Homestead Township on December 14th 1951; this area extended into much older parts of Homestead Township including those around Sunnyside Drive today before it merged with Miami Gardens east of I-75 on October 15th 1969: all these properties were annexed intoApopKA when it formed official township boundaries for the first time following reclamation efforts following Hurricane Andrew's impact on February 26th 1992). At present day all but one property within Homestead Township still lie within Miami Gardens unincorporated territory zoned for commercial development only with noresidential development taking place: Sunnyside Drive between Sunrise Boulevard/I-275/State Road 441 becoming continuous commercial open space ringed by high rises housing apartment complexes with access to both highways while residential zoning remainsbbighed down exclusively to single family homes currently or later proposed developments which will require road frontage alterations or worse if approved through subsequent zoning changes without public input even though most residents live just outside their borders zoned exclusively for agricultural purposes serving mainly citrus production although power lines running along Sunrise Boulevard run through unincorporated territory separating Sunrise Manor developments from residences near US 27

Apopka is a small town located in Brevard County, Florida, about 20 miles southwest of Orlando. As of the 2010 census, the population was 909. The name "Apopka" is derived from its Native American name meaning "place of reeds." The first Europeans to visit Apopka were Spanish missionaries in 1565 and they named it San Marcos de Apopka because they found a large grove of mangroves there. After the American Revolution, Apopka became part of the Creek Nation and during the Seminole Wars it was taken by General Andrew Jackson's army as part of his campaign against Indian resistance. The residents were forced out in 1834 and 1835 when Seminole War Chief Osceola moved into the area. During World War II, Apopka was one of several communities that took advantage of Hodges Air Force Base for manufacturing munitions. The community also played an important role in cattle drives that transported milk from Texas to Florida during World War I and World War II. In recent years, many businesses have relocated to Apopka from other areas in Brevard County including agriculture (farms), health care (medical centers and clinics), construction (manufacturing companies) and technology (a software company). There are also plans to establish a golf course, water park and daycare center inApopka over time.
Apopka, Florida was founded in 1884 by James H. Black and his wife Anna. The town was named after a small stream called Apopka Creek. The black family operated a farm there until 1922 when they sold it to the United States government for $1,000. The land was then given to the towns of Oviedo andmiami for development.
