Altamonte Springs, Florida is home to the world's first optical accessory store, opened in 1922 by two brothers, Harry and Harry Winter. The store was known for its high-quality products and for selling equipment used in photography and other visual arts. In 1936, the store was bought by Julius Rosenwald who renamed it Rosenwald & Company. The company supplied eyeglasses, telescopes, binoculars, microscopes and more to customers around the world. In 1957, Rosenwald sold his company to American Optical Corporation which became one of the most popular retailers of optical products in America. After being acquired by Jabil Incorporated in 2002, American Optical Corporation ceased operations but continued to operate as a division of Jabil until 2006 when it merged with rival retailer Proctor & Gamble into the largest optical retailer in North America, combining sales forces from both stores into one operation. From 2006 until 2018, Altamonte Springs' only Major League Baseball team was the Tampa Bay Rays (now known as the Miami Marlins).

Altamonte Springs, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,723 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The name Altamonte Springs comes from Spanish for " Hidden Spring." The springs are located on an area that has been occupied by Native Americans since before European settlement. They may have been given the name because they were hidden from view by Tallahassee's thick forest and swamp. In 1835, Captain John Stonington discovered and named the springs after Lieutenant-Governor Carlos Ortiz de Altamonta y Costillas who had also found them while exploring Pensacola Bay. In 1865, following annexation of Everglades National Park by the United States, Altamonte Springs became part of what is now Miami-Dade County. The first post office in Altamonte Springs was established in 1870. By 1905 there were over 100 businesses in town with a total population of 2,500 people; today there are just over 60 businesses with a combined population of over 10,000 residents! One reason for this growth is that during World War II many people worked at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation located just east of town on State Road 892 which led to rapid expansion in business and housing – both single family homes and apartment buildings were built throughout much of North Miami Beach as well as South DowntownMiami (now Overtown). Today’s skyline can be seen looking east along SR 892 between Northwest First Street and Northwest Second Street where most manufacturing stopped more than 50 years ago when it left behind largeurban areas that house highrise condominiums/apartments/malls stretching all the way up to 5th Avenue SW

Altamonte Springs is a small town in Gainesville County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Altamonte Springs is located on Interstate 4 between Sanford and Volusia counties. The first permanent European settlers in what would become Altamonte Springs were French colonists who established a trading post there in 1763. After the Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolutionary War, they returned to France and their new home near Lake Pontchartrain became Fort Moultrie. In 1821, with land ceded by Seminole Chief Osceola to United States government for military purposes, General James K. Polk built Fort Polk here as part of Ulysses S. Grant's campaign against Seminole raids into Umatilla and Muskegon counties (now Michigan). The town was named for Lieutenant Colonel William Haltom's 1st Battalion Florida Volunteers (1824–26), which had fought at Pensacola during the Mexican-American War under Colonel John Cushing(1786–1858) and Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Davenport(1792–1860). The town was platted on May 3, 1827 by Eli Whitney from Lot 7A in Orange County,Florida next to where Champion Race Course now stands; he also patented most of what would become Altamonte Springs and I-4 corridor east of Sanford including present day Altamonte Park Golf Club & Resort and parts of Chain Bridge Road east of US 41/SR 82 interchange; this area later became known as "Whitney Heights". A post office called Whitney Heights opened on November 5th, 1827 under postal name Gadsdenville; it served until February 14th 1840 when it changed its name to Altamonte Springs proper due to confusion with Gadsdenville Post Office south of Gainesville that opened October 15th 1830 under the same name but served different areas including Spring Hill from December 10th 1830 through March 14th 1831 before finally changing its name back to Gadsdenville on April 4th 1850 after becoming coextensive with Gainesville proper. A tannery started operations in 1865 by Jepson Bros./Lloyd Brothers millsinery business owners Fayette Dixon (born about 1785), his brother James Dixon Sr., John Aiken (of Jacksonville) – father-in-law of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest – Isaac Newton Jarvis (died 1912) widow Lucy Hardison Jarvis George Beasley Waddell son Richard Beasley Waddell all worked together at Jepson Bros./Lloyd Brothers tannery starting 1865 produce natural dyes such as indigo blue dye used by Tiffany& Co.; these particular milliners produced 'pink' fabrics popularized by Ladies Home Journal beginning instructions pamphlet dated 1896 advising women not wears bright colors outdoors without protection made available free at various stores early Nineteenth century
The Altamonte Springs area was developed in the late 1800s by farmers who found salt water and land in the area. The first permanent settler in what is now Altamonte Springs was George A. White, who arrived in 1881. White built a home on the present-day east side of Altamonte Springs. By 1890, there were over 100 people living in Altamonte Springs. In 1916, the city of Orlando annexed much of what is now Altamonte Springs and its surrounding areas as part of its annexation into the city limits.
