The first firearms competition was held in 1942 and it took place at the gymnasium on North Flaverside Drive. It wasn’t until 1945 that an airgun shooting contest was started which took place at the old Recreation Building on Central Avenue near Florida State University (FSU). It wasn’t until 1951 that the Altamonte Springs Gun Club moved to its present location on South Eaton Road just east of I-4 exit 20A in Altamonte Springs!

The Altamonte Springs area was first settled by the Seminoles in the early 1800s. The following year, a group of Englishmen discovered the area and began to settle. In 1821, they named the settlement after Mount Mona, in south-central Florida. By 1830, there were over 100 people living in Altamonte Springs. In 1838, George Rogers Clark explored the area and named it for General James H. Polk who had recently been elected president of the United States. The town grew rapidly during its early years and by 1840, there were over 200 people living in Altamonte Springs proper. However, due to lack of transportation or resources, this growth stopped abruptly around 1850. During World War II, Altamonte Springs played an important role as a source of food for troops stationed throughout Florida and Southwest Georgia. The town also served as a major airfield for military operations during that time period. Altamonte Springs experienced significant growth again during the late 1990s and 2000s due to its status as a tourist destination. Today, the town has more than 10 thousand residents and is home to many popular attractions such as The Mall at Altamonte Hills which includes several stores and restaurants throughout different sections of town; two Formula One race tracks (the 1mile oval at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway); three golf courses: one located on State Road 7 (Ridgeview Drive) off County Road 620; five theme parks including Six Flags Over Georgia; four movie theaters; eight tennis courts; four amusement parks including Universal Studios Florida; six shopping malls including Four Seasons University Shopping Center; two waterparks - Lake Wales Aquarium & Zoo Preserve upstream from City Hall/Altamonte Hills Municipal Airportand Lakemont Park downstream from City Hall/.
