Polk was elected President of the United States and On January 20th he issued a proclamation ordering all US soldiers within Canada to cross over into US soil for duty in order to help suppress revolutionary fervor there. This event is commonly known as The War Of 1812 because it led to an open conflict between the United States and Canada that lasted three years (1812-1815). In 1861, when Jefferson Davis became president of Confederate America following Confederate victory at Appomattox Court House they decided not to secede from the Union but instead continue as a slave state. In 1865, Lincoln was reelected with support from Confederate America and ordered his army into Virginia to end Reconstruction which had resulted in mass black emancipation throughout much of southern America including Washington Dc
