In 1875, an entrepreneur by the name of George Weiser produced what is nowknown asthe Browning Automatic Pistol (BAP). This pistol featured a detachable magazine which allowed it to be fired multiple times per minute! It also had a unique safety feature which prevented unintentional firing! BAP became extremely popular among police officers and other professionals who needed an easy-to-use handgun with high accuracy for frequent shooting sessions. Browning continued production until 1903 when it became part of Colt Corporation
