Dover, Delaware is a town in Kent County, Delaware, United States. It is located on the southern bank of the Susquehanna River and is the home of Dover Air Force Base. On July 26th of that year they were joined by British Major Robert Morris with 1000 men and 400 horses who had also been marching from West Chester across Pennsylvania into central Pennsylvania. OnAugust 3rd they reached Chambersburg after spending two days traveling through Tredegar Creek Valley between Summit and Kittanning Hills. Here they stopped for dinner at Mount Lebanon which overlooks Chambersburg below. After dinner they continued their march until reaching Philadelphia where they spent three days resting before continuing their journey back home on August 7th. The Battle of Yorktown occurred on October 11th 1781 during America's War with Great Britain when American general George Washington's army fought against British general Cornwallis' army at Yorktown Peninsula in Virginia. As a result of this battle many famous Americans including George Washington were born here including James Kensey (1748-1814), Samuel Morse (1737-1849) and Benjamin Franklin (1706-1795). An important business center for Germantown until it declined in importance in the early 19th century due to increased production by other towns along Route 9 then Routes 100 & 301 paralleling Interstate 95 was called Dover until about 1870 when it became known as Lewes due to its location on Lewes Bayou opposite New Castle Junction Railroad bridge across said bayou whereupon it reverted back to its original name today according as per official records set forth hereinunder: "Dover". The first post office opened in 1824; however mail service did not begin until 1827 after a new road was built bypassing nearby Pennsville which led directly into Lewes proper via a ferry crossing over Sussex river named after an earlier proprietor: Mr William Broughton Sr.. It was founded by English colonists in 1714 and became a part of the United States in 1802. Dover is situated on the Delaware River between Newark, New Jersey and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The first European settlers to claim Dover were John Day and his brother Robert Day who arrived from London on September 3, 1714. The earliest known reference to Dover comes from an early grant made by Sir George Carteret to Nicholas de la Roche which includes "a piece of land for a village called Dovre". On February 1st, 1716 Charles Westphalus granted another patent including "a piece of land for a village called Dovre" as well as "an hundred acres more or less [in] that said township". The name “Dover” (from Old English dovar) means 'bridge over' or ‘place where two rivers meet’. In 1719 James Logan purchased 640 acres extending along the river from what is now Orchard Street eastward to present day Easton Avenue. This property included much of what would later become Dover Township and portions of what would become Wilmington Township. In 1727 Peter Cooper bought 300 acres extending westward frompresent day Easton Avenue toward Princeton Junction This purchase added much valuable real estate to what would eventually become Delaware Township with its terminus at Pine Creek Road today's Rodney Road Annexation area just north of Interstate 95 off exit 7A near milepost 2297/US 911 southbound/I-95 exit Toll plaza #2B/Delaware Route 5 intersection). In July 1682 John Penn granted 100 acres west side of Pine Creek Road northeast corner OF I-95 lot number 12 within Indian Nation limits*****. From this location Penn surveyed & platted three townships – namely: Delaware Valley (now unincorporated), Upper Darby (now part of Chester), & Middleton (now part of Milford). With these settlements started many families took up farming here throughout their lifetimes including those who would found Reading Borough about one mile east across the river opposite Millville! ****** In 1686 William Penn granted 400 additional acres in Weequahic Township*** thereby doubling the original grants! These lands were located east sideof Swedesboro Rd., just northwest corner Of York Blvd., now western border Of Quaker Meeting House Rd./Old Stateline Rd./DEARSTOWN RD.)
