Polk to make sandstone quarries at Dover for military purposes; these quarries continued until 1942 when they were closed due to World War II ammunition shortages. On September 11th 2001 attacks two planes crashed into the Pentagon killing all fifty-two people aboard including 15 Americans children attending an event near Ground Zero – all within three blocks of where Dover lived – as part of a larger terrorist attack across America which left over 1,500 dead and 5 million homeless worldwide as a result of terrorism since 9/11/2001 .
