Waterbury, Connecticut is an agricultural town located in the central part of the state of Connecticut. It was founded by a small group of settlers in 1776 and became an important city after it was incorporated as a city in 1868. The population of Waterbury peaked at over 100,000 in 1920, but has since declined to around 50,000 residents. One of the most famous residents of Waterbury is General George Washington who lived here for several years during his retirement before moving to Mount Vernon. The first people to settle in what is now Waterbury were farmers from Stratford-on-Avon and Hartford. By 1776, there were only a few families living hereabouts, mainly rural Protestants from New England who had come to help with the war against French forces. In 1777, land was donated by Colonel John Trumbull to establish what would become Waterbury as part of a large grant he had received from the British Crown. Soon after incorporation as a city on April 14, 1868 by Act of State (No. 1), water supplies and other needs were put into place for the new town based on recommendations made by Mayor John Aikenbach and Councilman Lewis Boggs. The growth of Waterbury led to enlargement and improvement of many aspects of its infrastructure such as streets and public buildings; sewers; bridges; airports; schools; libraries; hospitals; businesses; etc., which continue today through maintenance and upgraded facilities operated by Public Works Committee - which also includes members elected from Ward 3 & 4 plus Mayor JB Walsh! Waterbury’s rich history begins with its founding on April 14th, 1868 when it officially became an incorporated city under Act No 1 following recommendations given by Mayor John Aikenbach and Councilman Lewis Boggs with support from Governor Gideon Welles: “It has been my opinion that if this community can be brought up to date so that all its features may be suitably realized for the proper government thereof we should endeavor thereto… I makerecommendation that this town be incorporated into one body politic with all its corporate rights vested therein” (Gideon Welles official statement). The original plat map showing just six homes scattered around what is now downtown shows how much development took place over time: In 1881 annexation added Westville Heights until then rural Farmington Township westward until just east of Main Street where it split off into two wards – North Ward (north side) including present day Derby Hills area then East Ward (south side) taking current day South End/West End areas including much present day Wethersfield between these wards along Main Street until finally annexed back into North Ward in 1908 making Waterbury functionally two cities! Consequently both City Halls were built on Capitol Square within 12 months due largely to increased population density caused primarily by railroad expansion across town lines!: With People Power coming into effect following World War II leader Franklin D Roosevelt's Executive Order 8802 giving every American citizen their right regardless race or color to vote regardless residency requirements resulting in dramatic changes throughout Connecticut!, tight regulation ensued especially during early postwar years leading some businesses outta town while others decided they needed fresh blood behind them! However despite some high profile departures business continued booming thanks mostly due to innovative marketing techniques used such as advertising Truman Capote’s play "A Hard Day's Night" being filmed here starring James Dean opposite Joan Crawford Stingray Scooters being developed here too ensuing traffic nightmare becoming synonymous with “Watersboro Nights!" . Nevertheless postwar years beganussieces more serious water shortages which led finally culminating in 1981 when newly formed Town Council mergedwith neighboring Farmington Township creating what is now known as “Watertown” having lost almost all farmlands except for about 10% currently located near downtown core
