Over time, other businesses joined theCaptain Winthrop Target Club and they continued to operate the range until 1958 when it was purchased by The Gunnery School Incorporated (GSSI). GSSI operated the range until 1984 when it was sold to Theodore Jaffe who renamed it The Arsenal Target Corporation (ATC). In 1990, ATC merged with Hennepin Industries LLC (HIN) which held onto ownership until 1997 when HIN sold all their assets including the water pistol target range(WPT)to Brownells Sporting Goods Company (BGSG)." Waterbury, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 25,544 as of the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Hartford County and the tenth most populous municipality in New England. Waterbury began as a small settlement on the southern tip of what is now Waterbury Township on December 15, 1672 by colonists from Ipswich, Massachusetts under the leadership of General John Winthrop. In 1701 it became part ofHartford Colony through an agreement between Governor Jonathan Trumbull and Mayor Simon Bradstreet. By 1800 it had a population of 10,000 people and was one of three towns inHartford Colony that did not become part of the state when it was created on January 1, 1801. In 1814 Waterbury became part of Hartford County through an act of Congress adding land eastward to that county along with Saybrook and Northampton (now Southwick). The site for what would become Waterbury had been chosen by lottery conducted pursuant to an official decree issued by Gov. Moses Young on February 14th that year. The town reached its current size when all but 1/8ths of township were added to it via annexation from other municipalities during 1908-1910 due to rapid growth within Hartford County following enactment of the Territorial Expansion Act (1864). The first post office was established in Watertown on November 17th, 1816; however this mail service did not reach residents within the town until after 1830 because Paths Bridge Road connecting Watertown with Derby went only about two miles south into section 3b Township which then included much more rural territory including present-day Waterbury
Waterbury was first settled by the Wyandots in 1639. The town was founded on the site of an ancient Indian village and named after a nearby stream. The town's first permanent settler, John Winthrop, arrived in 1644. In 1701, Waterbury became a part of Connecticut Colony. The town's population grew rapidly during the 18th century, reaching nearly 20,000 by 1753. By 1800, Waterbury had become one of the largest towns in Connecticut. However, its growth stopped around 1815 due to economic reasons. During the 1830s and 1840s, Waterbury experienced large-scale development due to its location as a center for heavy manufacturing and transportation. However, these developments also led to increased pollution and social unrest within the town. In 1852, Waterbury merged with neighboring Hartford to formHartford City.
