The history behind Waterbury can be traced back over 350 years ago when it first settled by English farmers who had been migrating from rural areas eastward since before British North America was founded by colonists in 1607 - many coming from Yorkshire England where water supplies were scarce due to high hills surrounding the town site! Today's downtown core is built around a large Common that served as an open space for local farming activities until ceded over by development interests during 1800s! The Town Hall Building completed in 1792 remains one of our most popular tourist destinations with its beautifulFederal Style architecture and interior furnishing designed by architect Amos Davenport who also designed much of Norwich's Georgian architecture before moving upriver to become headmaster at Yale University! Another early landmark visible today near Main Street & Thames Avenue is what used to be called "the old mill" or "the gristmill". This structure consisted of a series of windmills that ground cornmeal into flour for bread during colonial days; today only remnants remain standing along with several adjacent outhouses still intact! A more recent addition would have been an impressive brick building located just off Route 9 across from Princeton College now home to retail shops & restaurants while State Street storefront conversion continues apace transforming this once sleepy residential street into one bustling commercial district complete with row upon row Of Cornerstone Craft Brewery taprooms!) One could go on but suffice it say that Waterbury has always had something special going for it thanks largely to its rich municipal history dating back over 350 years!!!
