Gun Parts History in Stamford, Connecticut began on July 14, 1836 when Freeman Hartwell and Nicholas Brown purchased a blacksmith shop in the town. The business became known asHartwell & Brown forge. In 1871, theHartwell & Brown forge was donated to the city of Stamford by Freeman Hartwell's widow. The forge continued to operate until it was closed in 1932. The building still stands today and is used as a museum. In 1903, Edward Cockerill and his sons founded Cockerill Arms Company in Stamford. This company produced rifles and shotguns under the name "Cockerill Firearms Corporation." In 1916, Edward Cockerill died and his son took over the businessorship. From 1916-1922, Cockerill Arms produced shotguns under license from Winchester Repeating Arms Co., Incorporated (Winchester). During World War I, Cockerill Arms manufactured pistols for United States military forces; however, these firearms were not exported to foreign countries. Following World War II, production of handguns stopped at WACO Manufacturing Company because of nuclear disarmament regulations. However, this did not stop gun sales at Cockeril Arms Corporation; instead they were transferred to Waco Firearms Corp., which became known as "Cockrell guns" after Edward Cockrell Sr., CEO of Waco firearms Corp.. AfterEdwardCockrellSr.'s death in 1984 his son took over management of the company but discontinued manufacture due to financial difficulties in 1990s A new company called American Armory was started up by two former employees of Waco Firearms Corp.-Alan Gottfried and Dean Tilden-and they made revolvers using parts that had been salvaged from Waco Firearms Corp..AmericanArmory ceased operations in 1998 On October 12th 2006 three individuals - George Abraham Smith III (), Michael Murtaugh () - bought back all rights to "Cockrell Guns" from American Armory LLC for $1 million They announced their intent to resume manufacturing beginning with pistols on February 3rd 2007 . However this never happened because Michael Murtaugh passed away before he could begin manufacturing
