Shelton, Connecticut is a town inHartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 20,723 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford–Worchester Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, Shelton had a total area of 23 square miles (60 km2), all land. The first settlement in what would become Shelton was made on December 3, 1792 by Joshua Butler and his wife Sarah Goodyear Butler with their three children and two cows. Joshua's grandson built the first house in what later became Shelton on February 4th of that year. On July 12th of 1810 it was reported that John Boynton had settled in what would become Shelton and erected a log cabin near present day Main Street and New Road. On October 2nd of 1814 Rev Jabez Weare moved from Fairfield to take up a homestead claim in what would become Shelton when he purchased 160 acres (71 ha) from Samuel Colt for $200 ($ today). Weare named his farm "Weare's Meadow". In 1824 Rev John Boynton came to live in what would become Shelton with his family after moving from Newtown – then an unincorporated community located within Hartford County – and purchase an additional 150 acres (61 ha) which he donated to the town as part of its incorporation intoHartford County on November 6th of that year. The first schoolhouse was built at present day corner of New Road and Main Street on September 25th, 1825 by Reverend Amos Dixon for £1 ($ today). A second schoolhouse was built about one mile east on state route 27 about one-half mile west of current day State Route 9 about one-third mile northwest from current day Representative Avenue about five miles west from where it intersects Interstate 84 outside Of Milford Haven before being abandoned in 1830 due to lack funding; this brick building still stands across from I-84 off exit 7A just south sideof Park Place Corner . After only four years foundering despite numerous donations including those totaling over $5K dollars by local residents Isaac Morse….it seems like our early educators were not very successful given how little impact they actually made given how popular public education thenwas…………………………………………………………………………………..

Shelton is home to two Colleges and one Hospital which date back to the 1800s. The first college was Congregationalist Academy which was founded in 1803 by Rev. John Tilton and Mr. George Rivington. In 1838, Shelton Colleege welcomed its first students with classes starting on September 15th of that year. The hospital opened in 1910 as St Johns Infirmary and it currently provides care for patients from Shelton and surrounding towns including Enfield, Derby, Norwalk, West Hartford and South Windsor. The town also played a significant role during World War II as it housed more than 5,000 residents who served in the military or were evacuated to other areas due to the war effort. Some of these residents include Joe Rosenthal who died during the Holocaust; Harold "Doc" Robbins who played baseball for the Red Sox; Navy Sgt 1st Class John Fetterman who served in North Africa; Sgt 9th Class Edward Ahern who fought in Sicily and Northern Italy; Air Force Lt Cmdr Clarence Ellerbe who flew combat missions over Japan; Sgt 3rd Class Roy Prentice who manned an anti-aircraft gun on Guam during WWII; Sgt 4th Class Clyde Kappenberger who served as a medic with Task Force 77 during Operation Market Garden
