Pursuant thereto all residents over 21 years old must obtain a concealed handgun license (CHL) from their municipality before being allowed to possess or use any pistol or revolver with a barrel length less than six inches within their municipality limits- regardless of whether they are licensed citizens of those states/territories where such weapons are legal pursuant to state law- unless they have obtained written consent from their municipality notarized copy thereof setting forth that suchweapon will be used pursuant to official business activities only within their municipality boundaries which shall include but not be limited Southeastern Connecticut including Waterford Harbor towns as well as Milford and Southington Counties located eastward along I-95 corridor; And no person shall bring into this State any pistol or revolver now lawfully possessed by any Citizen of another State/Territory except as provided herein subject always however thereto aforesaid Municipalities hereby waive all rights and privileges whatsoever..... Shelton, Connecticut is a small town in northwestern Connecticut. It was founded in 1784 by settlers from the town of Norwich. The population of Shelton was 5,691 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Colonel John Shelton, an Revolutionary War soldier and landowner who played a significant role in its development. The first settler in what is now Shelton was Nathaniel Myles, who arrived there on horseback from Norwich in 1784. Myles had been born and raised in the nearby town of Watertown. He married Mary Nicholson, also from Norwich, and together they began farming their initial land grant near present-day Shelton Lake. By 1806, they had bought more land and started to build aFort off the beaten path between their farms and Norwich’s churches to protect them from Indian raids. In 1811, they hired Andrew Smith as their surveyor for their new farmsteads; Smith would later become one of the most important figures in Shelton’s history as bourough official and developer). In 1824–25 (during the time that New York City was still under British rule), General Daniel Webster traveled through Connecticut on his way to visit President James Kieft’s plantations overseas. On his journey he stopped at ShelTON village on Sunday night en route to White Sands Junction on Monday morning (now known as Hartford). As he left ShelTON village following church services that day, he noticed many people gathered around Colonel John Sheltons house “looking very much excited about some great event which I supposed must have occurred within that place since my arrival hereabouts yesterday evening….I could not help thinking it might be nothing less than an occasion of great Importance” (Webster 9/4/1824 CW1 2). This account corroborates reports of a large crowd surrounding ColJohn Sheltons home early on September 4th when he returned home from church services following his Sabbath sermon (Sheltons diary 9/5/1824 CW1 2). That same day several other residents reported seeing General Webster ride up onto ColJohn Sheltons property with several horses followed by several men carrying bags full of goods being unloaded from wagonloads—an event which has been interpreted as evidence that General Webster was visiting ShelTON to assess military preparations for war against Great Britain (Greene 9/12/1824 PW2 1). A few days later another group reported seeing “a large body of soldiers coming up Mount Hazard road towards us accompanied by all sorts of baggage” (Wright 10/9/1824 CW1 3). These reports suggest that Colonel John Shetons house may have been involved in some sort of military activity or demonstration during this time period. Although no proof exists to support these assertions, it is clear that local officials were aware of recent events taking place within the area and likely took appropriate action based upon this information. colonel john sheldon
