In terms of education, Shelton has six high schools: Westlock Academy (grades 11 through 12), East Longmeadow (grades 7 through 8), North Stamford High School (grades 9 through 12), South Windsor High School (grades 10 through 12), and White Plains High School (grades 11 through 14). There are also three middle schools: Hebron Middle School (grades 7 to 8), Lincoln Middle School (grades 9 to 10) and Staples Technical Vocational School/Staples Senior High School(11 to 14). There are no community or technical colleges in Shelton but there are several regional universities located nearby including Yale University and Brown University. One notable development in recent years has been the construction of a new elementary school which opened its doors to students on September 15th 2006. This school serves children from pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade; it is one of only twoElementary Schools open to all students within the Hartford-Norwalk-New Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area without any discrimination based on race or color. It remained an incorporated town until 1976 when it became part of the larger municipality ofHartford. Southeastern Connecticut has some rich history dating back to before European contact with this area including Native American ruins that are similar to those found near Stamfordbridge which date back to about 10K years ago! One such site located off Route 9 north of Stamfordbridge called “The Pigeon landmark” may have been built by early Paleoindians or other pre-contact groups! Continuing archeological research will help us better understand this area’s ancient past! There have been many milestones for Shelton during its history including becoming one of America's largest manufacturing cities; being host to three presidential inaugurations (Ulysses S Grant President 1868; Franklin D Roosevelt President 1936; John F Kennedy President 1960); serving as home to HartfordUniversity which opened its doors on October 1st 1924 – becoming only the second university in Connecticut after Yale University; and hosting both the 2004 UConn men’s soccer national championship game as well as numerous other events throughout her illustrious history like making her way onto Broadway for several seasons during periodical play “The Great Waits” starring James Garner (of “Moby Dick” fame) beginning in 1962 - all while still remaining an unincorporated community!
