Shelton is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It has been part of the Hartford Metropolitan Area since its incorporation in 1927. The town was named after Nathaniel Shelton, who laid out the town on his farmstead in 1819. In 1847, a post office called Shelton was established and remained in operation until 1959. The first settler to arrive in what is now Shelton was Samuel Harkness, arriving with his family from Manchester on October 12, 1786. They built a small cabin near where the current post office stands today. By 1800, many other settlers had arrived and started farms around what is now Shelton; some founded buildings such as Harkness' Store and School (now part of Walmart). One of these early settlers was Nicholas Sears who purchased 100 acres (40 ha) of land northeast of present-day Shelton from Roger Bacon on July 7, 1800. He named it "Shelton". Nicholas Sears built a log cabin that still stands today on this property which served as his home until 1830 when he sold it to John Greenough for $100 cash. Greenough also lived in this house for a short time before moving away and developing what is now Old Saybrook into an agricultural community with stores and homes. In 1827, when Hartford became an citylimits withinHartford County due to population growth%, the Select Board voted to incorporate Shelton as a separate village under the name "Old Saybrook", but no action was taken because there were already too many villages within Hartford County at that time! On March 3rd 1830 by Act No 4 of 1830 "An act for establishing townships within Hartford county" &c.,(section 2), new townships were created including Old Saybrook Township #2nd Incorporation etc., allying itself with old New London Township #1st Incorporation etc.; Village of Stamford having been disbanded! But again nothing happened because there were already too many villages within Hartford County!!! So on May 1st 1830 by Act No 5 of 1830 "an act for establishing townships within Hartford county" &c.(section 3), same things continued but with just Old Saybrook township being included instead! And so we have our very own Shayyton Town Constitution dated November 25th 1830!!!!!!!!! And yes we are finally incorporated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shelton is a town in Connecticut and the seat of Shelton County. The population was 4,571 at the 2010 census. The name "Shelton" is derived from the Algonquian word "shaloni", meaning "settlement." In 1614, Colonel John Winthrop purchased land in what is now Shelton from the Pequot people. The first sawmill in Shelton was built by Drury in 1793. A post office called Shelton was established in 1815, and remained in operation until 1840. The first settler to take up residence near modern day Shelton was Major Jonathan Trumbull of Albany, New York, who arrived on April 15, 1792. He erected a log cabin on what is now Fairfield Street with his family. Captain Samuel Fiske arrived on July 12th from Watertown, Massachusetts with his wife and two children under three years old; he had been sent there by Governor George Washington to purchase corn for the army at Ticonderoga Lake. On September 1st, Captain Fiske erected a small frame building which became known as the Fiske House. On October 5th of that year, Colonel John Winthrop came ashore on Long Island Bay with fourteen men and their families bearing gifts of goods and tools for use by himself and his assistants upon reaching Plymouth Rock (now Falmouth). Upon arrival at Plymouth Rock he found that all along its shores were extensive tracts of saltpeter soil which must have been very valuable since no one had ever developed it into any kind of commerce or industry! It wasn't until after landing here that he met Major Trumbull who introduced him to some local people who lived near where modern day Shelton stands today - Doctor Joshua Barney (1768-1844), Reverend Ezra Thayer (1767-1832) and their son Amos Thayer (1781-1848). Doctor Barney soon realized that this new land could be used for farming purposes so he began construction of a house on what would later become Old Town Road about two miles east of where present day ShelTON stands today! Reverend Thayer also started backbreaking labor during winter months to clear snow off roadsides so those traveling through town could get to their homes without having to walk! In 1801 Amos Thayer married Rebecka Platt (died 1854), daughter of Nicholas Platt from KingstonUponHull England. They set out across country selling food items they gathered along their travels including apples from New York State down through Pennsylvania until they reached Delaware River Valley near Princeton Junction where they stopped for fuel supplies before continuing their journey southward again arriving back at Kingston Upon Hull around May 10th! They continued traveling throughout summer doing odd jobs such as sweeping floors etc., but eventually settled down permanently around Fall 2018 just north of modern day Shinctonville close to burial ground for early America's revolutionary leaders Congress Hall & White House!!!
