However, since the turn of the 21st century there has been significant development occurring in Shelton with several new businesses opening up including a grocery store (Albertsons), a second high school (Stratford High School), a health club (Village Health Services/Nurses' Health Plus), an arena/sports complex called "The Coliseum" which hosts various local events (e.g., ice hockey tournaments) as well as plans for increased residential density near Interstate 95 outside of town limits which are expected to result in even more job growth over time - all while keeping prices low for residents across all income levels throughout this expanding community! In recent years there have been efforts made by both city officials and citizens to try and revive some aspects of downtown business district that have begun to lose their Mojo - like painting streets orange along with adding murals & art work related thereto so that they can once again bring life back into these deteriorating areas! Shelton, Connecticut is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 25,890 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous town in Fairfield County after Danbury. Shelton is located on the southern border of the city of Hartford and it shares a common boundary with the towns of East Haven and West Haven. The first white settler in Shelton was Samuel Halsey in 1784. In 1825, Colonel John Trumbull donated land to Shelton for a public school system and dispensary. On October 15, 1831, General Philip Stonington arrived at Shelton with troops to capture British troops under Lieutenant-General David Hunter during the Battle of Newtown Bridge. General Stonington's forces destroyed several houses near present day Main Street while they were engaged in this skirmish; these are now known as "Halsey House" and "Stonington House". The townspeople built new homes around these sites until 1837 when they sold them all back to Colonel Trumbull for $1 million dollars In 1846 (the year before Hartford became an incorporated city), coalmining began operations in Shelton by local men Moulton & Huntley under what would become one of America's largest coal companies – Peabody Coal Company Limited – which still operates today as Peabody Energy Corporation. At that time there were only three other towns within ten miles of Hartford: New London to the south, Norwich to the east and Milford to north; all three towns had no access to coal resources or transportation so their residents relied on agriculture or hunting for food sources nearby. With little prospect for future growth due to dwindling natural resources and competition from other cities in Connecticut – including Hartford – many people abandoned their homes in search of more prosperous times elsewhere. However, over time many residents decided that they wanted their own personal community within walking distance of bothHartford City Hall (home of state government) as well as State Capitol Building across Front Street from where business leaders could meet with legislators/governors during sessions and important events such as parades and socials In 1966 two young men by the name of Bill Belichick (then coaching quarterback at Yale University) came up with a plan to turn an old factory into a football stadium that would serve as home field for Yale’s varsity team while also providing much-needed revenuegeneration opportunities for their Alma Mater This led directly to Patriots Stadium being built on what is now Park Avenue just east of downtown Halethorpe Road outside Ofallstown Industrial Park just northwest off I-91 exit 3
Shelton was founded in 1670 by John Shelton and his wife Sarah. The town was named after the Shelton family, who were early settlers in the area. In 1812, the town was renamed for General James K. Polk and it became a part of Springfield, Massachusetts.
