The town experienced rapid growth following this event as well as numerous other industrial milestones over the next few decades including major developments at Brown University (1925), Central State Teachers College (1928), URI (now URI/Purdue) (1939), Connors Paper Products Company (1945), Chrysler Corp.'s Bel Air plant (1949–1950) and much more besides. During World War II, Norris Manufacturing produced military supplies such as tanks and planes for Allied forces - an important role for Norwalk during that time period! During his presidency from 1933 to 1945 Franklin D Roosevelt made many decisions affecting aspects of Connecticut’s economy like creating state income tax laws which would eventually lead to deregulation – all while living in New York City until he died seven years later! On November 7th 1960 Norwalk voters approved passage of two referenda granting cityhood to its citizens while rejecting taxes proposed by then-Town President Melvin Heller – breaking ground on what would become known as “The Norwood Project” – allowing future mayors such as James Mapes to make decisions about how best to serve their constituents within their municipality rather than via political appointees! On December 1st 1970,[5] Mayor Seymour Weiser opened what would become one of America’s most renowned shopping malls - anchored by Sears Department Store - located adjacent to Interstate 95 just outside of downtown Norwalk!
