It is reported that these brass cannonballs caused quite a stir amongst members of the public who saw them forthe first time. Soon after this event, other towns began producing their own batches of brass cannonballs ().

Norwalk is a town in Connecticut, United States. The population was 19,872 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford-Worthington-East Hartford, CT Metropolitan Statistical Area. Norwalk was founded on November 3, 1636 by Increase Mather and his brothers Samuel and CottonMather. The name comes from the Norwalk River which flows through it. The first settler in what is now Norwalk was John Winthrop who came in 1630 with his father and two brothers. In 1764, after the signing of the Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolutionary War, General George Washington arrived in Norwalk to sign it. A post office called Norwalk was established in 1807, and remained operational until 1861. In 1870, land east of the river was annexed to form East Hartford; this left Norwalk as an unincorporated community withinHartford County. In 1927, when Hartford County became a state capital city under statehood, Norwalk became one of its six townships within that new jurisdiction. As part of that process, all township residents were given voting rights and renaming themselves "towns". That year also marked the opening of what is now known as Route 9 Business Path (now 8th Street), which ran through town from north to south linking many local businesses together across downtown streetscape without crossed by any roads or other public infrastructure connected those businesses together like today's Main Street running east-west between First Hill Center mall on one side and Weymouth High School on another side In 1965–1966 – during Mayor Joseph Jastrzemski's term – construction began on Interstate 95 heading north out of town along present day 8th Street past Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Cemetery before turning east into Plymouth Road just inside town limits beside I-95/Route 23 interchange On July 1st 1967 – less than two months before Connecticut's official incorporation as a state – Norwich Township had applied for but not received incorporation intoHartford City because they felt their economic development potential did not justify being classified as such within that newly created municipality despite having about twice as many people living there . On October 5th 1977 when incorporation occurred both townships were merged into the newly formed city with much fanfare including speeches from then-(then) Governor Lowell Perot . After more than three decades living separate lives under different governance structures (norwich township governing body dissolved in 1984 whileHartford City governing body continued until 2001) The merger caused some resentment among residents who felt their communities had been forgotten about during this time period when most important decisions were made outside their local jurisdictions
