According to the USGS Geographic Names Information System, there are several named places within walking distance of NorWalk: Community Oak Hill (northwest), Eagar Lake (northwest), Deerfield Beach (southwest), White Sands Missile Range (southeast), Hammondsport Naval Base (southcentral), Eastbrook Park (northeast) and Newtown Valley Shopping Center (east).

Norwalk, Connecticut is an incorporated town in Norwalk County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 34,897 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford-West Hartford metropolitan area. The town was laid out in 1837 by Samuel Todd and James Fenton and named for itsthen-ran community of Norwalk on a tract of land granted to them by Colonel John Smith. In 1878, the town became a part of the newly formed city of Bridgeport. In 1949, it merged with Newtown to form the current municipality. Norwalk's first settler was Nathaniel Gibbs who arrived in 1664 and built a house on what is now Main Street. In 1792, Daniel Treadwell built a small tavern on what is now State Street which served as the first store in Norwalk. A post office called "Norwalk" was established in 1827, but no mail ever reached it because there were no roads then like today's Interstate 95 or Route 1A which make travel between Stamford and Norwalk easy. The Town Hall building stands today on Main Street (now School Street) where local officials met during early days until biweekly sessions were moved to New London after that city's incorporation in 1835. In 1865, when Hartford opened its new central business district adjacent to Prospect Park (then known as Greenfield), Norwalk saw an opportunity to become one of the new businesses within that district; accordingly, it became one of only two towns – along with Stratford – given permission by Mayor George Gambrill to erect physical barriers within that business district so that Its residents could have access without having their homes violated if they desiredTo do so (the other being Westville). These physical barriers lasted until about 1930 when all municipal boundaries underwent revision which allowed for more open competition among municipalities within our state - including those located adjacent to downtownHartford thereby undermining any remaining claims by some municipalities regarding preferential treatment accorded them due to their location within our constitutional system - thereby paving the way for modern day Hartford annexation into ultimately larger cities such as Stamford and Danbury while also depriving us of many fine old buildings & historical landmarks situated within our borders! On July 4th 1840 Christopher Cushing erected a frame home on what is now Elmwood Avenue just east of Bridgeport Center Mall; this home remains unrestored today (& may be seen from Interstate 95) as does much else throughout CT around this time period indicative of how rapidly things were changing outside traditional farming communities near main highways! Norwich again made history when Mayor Gambrill requested that all local merchants who did not own houses or auto repair services move their businesses into residential areas adjacent to both downtownHartford & Prospect Park creating what we still see today as perhaps one of THE most vibrant commercial districts inCT - yes even better than things like Greenwich Village!!! What we have today are some lovely brick buildings sandwiched between high rise condos...I'm sorry but I don't think I want kids walking down Elmwood Avenue these days ;) back before WWII almost every street had its own name...or at least thats how it used to be !! Many people here still remember those names & sometimes use them occasionally when referring back nostalgically past experiences :) Today’s streets are filled with acronyms such as “N nor wALK” etc., generated from various social media sites etc., yet they represent little more than bumper stickers at best! lol
