Norwalk, Connecticut is a town in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 26,982 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Fairfield County and the second most populous municipality in Connecticut. Norwalk's borders are defined by Easton Lake to the south and west, Stamford to the north and east, and New Milford to the north-west. Inland there is farmland and woodland as well as some small townships. The first people who arrived in what is now Norwalk were three brothers from England who named themselves John, Peter, and Thomas Norwalk on December 12th 1623. They founded a trading post called "Norwalk" on what is today Deer Path Drive about one mile northeast of present day Norwalk Center. The original town site was located along present day Indian Trail which ran from Stamford to Norwich. A second post or trading center was established at Saybrook just southwest of modern-day Ansonia between 1725 and 1727 by two Dutch traders named Cornelius Kieft (1651–1728) and Johannes van der Voort (1685–1746). These early settlements grew slowly due to lack of water resources but soon began emerging as major commercial centers with heavy trade in goods produced on Long Island Sound including textiles, seafoods, grains, lumber, whiskey etc.. In 1814 Norwich surrendered its incorporation into Hartford while Fairfield continued unincorporated until 1819 when it became part of Hartford proper. This left much of eastern Fairfield Unincorporated except for Norwalk where residents voted to become incorporated on February 14th 1821 after several years of petitioning by local businessmen/politicians Daniel Jinks (1802-1879), Augustus Kelley (1807-1880), Lemuel Goodrich (1800-1864), Jacob Hoadley (1800-1857) – all Democrats – Alfred Thayer Mahan (1805-1895) – an Republican – John Prentiss Goddard (1789-1868) – an Independent - Lewis Cassidy Potter Jr.(?-) -and William Moulton Marston II(?-) . As part of this process they name changed their business names from "Norwich Landing" to "Norwalk". At that time there were only a few hundred residents within the township limits with mostly farmers living outside its boundaries near Saybrook Lake Accordingly when Hartford repealed its incorporation ordinance on April 15th 1835 all vestiges of norwegian influence withinFairfield had disappeared save for a few homes/ businesses still operating withinHartford neighborhoods such as Stonington & Bolton; these gentlemen sold their interests innorwich Landing shortly thereafter absorbed intoHartford’s expanding city limits creating what would eventually become downtown Hartford As Hartford increased both its population size overall as well as its economy so too did rapid growth rates within Norwalk centered around Deer Path Drive & Eastern Avenue thru which traffic increasingly funneled starting back then right up against Route 9 Exit 19A serving today’s downtown core known then simply as “Downtown” vernacularly beginning “upriver” because that is how many Main Street businesses began & continue existing today: Wagon Wheel Bakery started out downriver at Ferry Road; First National Bank opened up next door at Ferry Rd; Aquarium filled up mostly around State Street; finally IGA moved uptown opposite Oneontaire Mall across CSX tracks onto Park Ave thenceforth known simply Downtown Hartfdoxie before finally reverting back Downriver again starting off Rte 9E heading back home past current day Quinnipiac University

This gun was called the “Tottenham” and it fired pellets that could be released from an open breech. It was very successful and quickly became known as the “Father Of All Air Guns”. However, soon after its introduction there were problems with this gun due to its design which led to its replacement by the more advanced “Fowler” airgun in 1916. The Fowler also had some issues with fire quality which led to its replacement by the more advanced British Enfield rifle in 1925. It is included within the Hartford-New Britain metropolitan area and is part of the New England region. The first settlers in Norwalk were Congregationalists from Great Britain. They arrived in 1664 and founded a small town on what is now Main Street called Norwalk. In 1797, John Nicholson, an American Revolutionary War soldier and influential businessman, bought land in Norwalk from the original founders for $1,000 cash. He renamed it Northaven after his native country of England. Northaven quickly became one of Connecticut's leading towns with its large shipyards and commercial businesses. Norwalk experienced significant growth during World War II as military activities increased around the area due to the war effort or because of strategic importance to United States forces stationed in Europe or Asia. The shipyards produced warships such as USS Constitution (1801) and USS Enterprise (1942). Other major businesses that thrived during this time include Sears Roebuck & Company (now Sears Holdings Corporation), Wetherbee Paper Manufacturing Company, General Electric Company (now GEICO), Ford Motor Company (now Ford Motor Company Automotive Services Division), Brown University and Yale University. During the 1960s through 1980s many changes occurred in Norwalk including dramatic increases in population density due to suburbanization; a rapid expansion of shopping malls throughout central CT; wholesale conversions by local stores into department stores;the opening of several top-rated universities including Brown University and Yale University;and major renovations throughout most important businesses such as civic buildings, schools and churches
