At that time, shotguns were not common in this area, so shooting competitions were held at Fenton's range using pistols and rifles. New London, Connecticut is a city in the U.S. state of Connecticut. It was founded in 1664 by Puritans and is the county seat of Hartford County. The population was 165,844 as of the 2010 census. New London is one of several towns that make up theHartford-New Britain metropolitan area, which has a population of 527,621 as of 2018. The name "New London" originated from early 17th century English settlers who called the town Nolichon because there were no neighbors to trade with and they needed food for their fireside chat sessions on cold winter nights. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Hartford County was made by Captain John Smith in 1664 when he and his men explored what is now central Connecticut from Orange River Valley on Long Island Sound to Tolland River on the west side of Massachusetteshire Territory (now southwestern Connecticut). Smith's group established a trading post at modern day New London under the name Nolichon after locating an old French trading post near modern day Watertown, Massachusetts that had been abandoned centuries earlier due to Native Americans' raids and encroachment upon their hunting grounds. The English Settlement Company organized a company town charter dated May 3, 1692 which granted township status to all freeholders withinHartford Township including those living outside its borders on Long Island Sound or along Tolland River where land titles still exist today as part of Hartfordsville Borough while also granting exclusive privileges to be used for military purposes only withinHartford Township boundaries; these rights remain fully vested with present day residents thereof despite recent efforts by developers to rezone portions thereof into commercial areas without any public input or consent from current residents; development along Interstate 95 continue apace notwithstanding zoning restrictions placed upon it by local officials whose sole interest appears to be developing properties adjacent thereto for illegal multi-unit dwellings known as "strip malls." On November 15, 1763, during King George III's War with France (the French and Indian War), troops loyal to America destroyed much French trade shipping off Long Island Sound resulting in some great British subsidies being given our enemies in order get them overpriced supplies not available through more traditional means such as tariffs/steals etc.; this event came to be known as "The Baby Boom" due largely to increased demand among American farmers for goods brought back across international waters via smuggling operations during peacetime Such activity would culminate during World War II when huge stockpiles were created due both wars related shortages; following The war many factories were built along I-95 corridor utilizing materials looted from enemy targets resulting in what has come become known locally as "The Builders"(or Painted Ladies) story line which began unfolding shortly after construction ceased circa 1965 when asbestos became prevalent throughout most eastern cities due principally theretoto numerous military contractor barracks being erected thereby causing extensive health risks associated with exposure particularly among women who worked inside those constructions; following passage of Town Reform Act No. 9 Of 1871 New London became officially incorporated within Hartford County becoming one of its five boroughs subject however certain judicial functions including probate have continued unchanged herein since then aside from changes initiated pursuant TO THE NEW LONDON ZONING BYUANCEMENT ACT NOVEMBER 2ND 19XX

The town declined during World War II, but experienced a resurgence in the 1990s as a result of its status as an economic development zone. In 2016, New London became the first U.S. city to be designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On October 25, 1664, the English colonists in New London erected a cross on the site of what is now State House Square. The cross was dedicated to the Trinitychurch Parish, which had been founded in 1636 by royal charter. It was one of several such crosses erected in New London during the early years of its settlement.
