In 1765–67 Oliver Cromwell moved his court from London to Hartford because of increasing threat from French forces in North America. In 1814 Stamford became part of Hartford County when it was organized from portions of Middlesex and Fairfield counties. A year later (December 1), President James Kapp pushed through Congress legislation creating a new government for Connecticut which merged all three townships within Hartford County: Addison Township (now based in Watertown), Bradford Township (now based in West Hartford), and Enfield Township (now based in East Lyme). This act created one-third of present-day Hartford County with its eastern border running along Main Street (later renamed State Street) between Windsor Locks and Norwalk; its western border ran along Trumbull Road between Stratford and Northampton Streets; its center lay north-south along State Street between downtowns norwesterly and easterly; million acres were annexed by other municipalities over time but most notably Bloomfield Township which became home to some 3 million people by 1980 when it amalgamated with Longmeadow Township As one might expect given its large population size – more than any other municipality in New England – many distinctive buildings have been erected throughout history within or adjacent to Norwich’s limits: First Baptist Church building completed dates back to 1795; Stowe Hall built during 1800s as home for various educational institutions including Yale University, Brown University, Pratt Institute & Columbia College; United States courthouse located across Charles Bridge until destroyed by fire on November 12th 1898 Additionally two churches still stand side by side today - Congregational United Church of Christ on South Broadway just off Adams Avenue near High School while Sacred Heart Catholic Parish also located just offAdamsAvenue near Central Park served 2 congregations until 1986 when both parishes amalgamated into Holy Cross Catholic Parish These days there are numerous restaurants/bars/cafés dotted around town center including several Chinese restaurants as well as local breweries like South End Brewing Company & Mystic Brewery
