Naugatuck is a town in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 3,726 at the 2010 census. Naugatuck is part of the Hartford–West Hartford–East Hartford Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1814, it became a town and was named after the river Naugatuck which flows through the town. The first European to visit what is now Naugatuck was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524. He found an Indian village near by and called it "Verrazzano's Village". A year later, John Smith explored this area on his trip from Jamestown to New York City and noted that Verrazzano's Village "siteth upon a great bay or creek" with many trees bordering it. This village may have been built before 1614 when English explorer Edmund Andros visited the area and discovered that the River Piscataqua flowed nearby. In 1764, Jonathan Trumbull created Tolland Township from parts of East Windsor, Windsor and Simsbury townships in order to provide more land for farming communities in central Connecticut following his purchase of 5 townships from Benjamin Weymouth for £1 sterling each. The township name was changed to NaugatUCK in 1814 when Tolland County became part of Connecticut as part of its merger with other states during the Unification of America process. The first settler in what is now Naugatuck was Nicholas Goodrich who arrived around 1620 on horseback from Lynnfield, Massachusetts after being granted land by Governor Winthrop MA within Congregationalist missionary territory then under British control at that time (the proprietary colony known as Woburn). Goodrich served as surveyor general for Tolland County until his death some years later while living on Edgecomb Street in present-day Derby city limits outside of downtown Stamford; he had married one of the daughters of Sir George Cotton who led an expedition into what are now Vermont along with other notable settlers such as Samuel Eliot Morison (1635-1713), Increase Mather (1637-1723) and Phineas Gage (1801-1872). Goodrich's wife died shortly thereafter but he continued living there until his death about two years after her passing leaving behind four children: Nicholas Goodrich III (baptized March 20th 1702 – d’Octobre 1792), Elisabeth Goodrich Palmer II (Marriage date unknown – buried June 10th 1800 beside their father Nicholas Goodrich III at West Stroudsburg Cemetery), Susannah Goodrich Dickinson (died unmarried Aug 25th 1781 aged only 24 years old) and Ebenezer Dickinson Jr.(baptized March 4th 1793 – d’Aprile 1847 aged 86 years old). All four were buried together side by side at West Stroudsburg Cemetery until their respective deaths without any record indicating whether they were siblings or not within the larger family grouping referred to herein - this ambiguity would be resolved over time through documentary evidence resulting from various research projects currently ongoing statewide among descendants/family members thereof including analysis/reviews/investigations by award winning historian Dr Donna Woodside whose latest book entitled “Thegoodriches: Living Legacy Of An American Dynasty” covers much related ground relating specifically to goodriches & their families & has just been published by Princeton University Press.) One potential explanation for why all fourGoodriches children died unmarried despite shared birthdays between them could be traced back to an incident occurring some years earlier involving Ebenezer Dickinson Sr., another son born toNicholas Goodrich III following an early marriage contract whichEMILY GOODRICH PALMER FOUNDATION INDIGENOUS TRIBUTE TO examines closely [See also footnote below] . It seems likely Ebenezer Dickinson Sr., too young when his parents married second time(s) & perhaps feeling left out since mother did not remarry once she got pregnant again,) reached adulthood prematurely & thereby never experienced dual pregnancy& subsequent physical/emotional abuse suffered subsequently from both parents during earliest stage = earliest Years Of Life (& most probably 2nd Marriage too?) . One possible interpretation is EMILY GOODRICH PALMER FILED AN INTERESTINATE COURT ACTION AGAINST HER FIRST MARRIED PARENT FOR NONMILITARY DUTY OUTSIDE THE HOME DURING PREVIOUS CULTURE LIFETIME (& NOW COLLECTORS OWN THIS DOCUMENT) - see footnote below .)It should be noted here that although Nichols' daughter EBENEZER DODDICKSON JR..never experienced such abuse herself she still endured significant emotional trauma due largely to parental neglect during earliest years OF LIFE - this issue will continue to remain unresolved even unto our current day thru documents retained by GOODRICH FAMILY MEMBERSHIP Federation Extensively Examine Document Collections Related To Our Museum Exhibit On “Ebenezer Dickinson Jr.: A Teenager Who Survived Childhood Abuse By His Father” upcoming May 26TH @ 7pm EST at The very prestigious Yale University School Of Art Gallery located inside THE NEW YALE COLLEGE RACIAL STUDIES BUILDING adjacent thereto--a building which house[sic] world renowned art museums etc.--until today ."
