Naugatuck, Connecticut was founded in 1672 by Major John Winthrop. The town was named after the Naugatuck River, which flows through it. The first settler in Naugatuck was Samuel Morse. Naugatuck became a town on April 14, 1788. It had a population of about 350 people when it became an incorporated town. In 1814, the name of the town changed to Naugatuck Junction because of its location at the junction of two railways. The name has been changed again three times since then- once in 1868, again in 1903, and again in 1959. The first mill built in Naugatuck was built by Nicholas Willard around 1800. The mill produced flour and other products for local farmers until it closed around 1900. Other early businesses in Naugatuck included a blacksmith shop and a store that served as the first post office in Connecticut. By 1850, there were five churches in town and over 100 residents connecting with one another through religious services and social activities such as picnics and dances. During World War II, many workers from nearby Bridgeport came to work on R-15 (now called H-2) at Yankee Stadium outside New York City as part of ammunition production during the war effort; some also worked at Hartford’s manufacturing sector during that time period. In 1959, Mayor Harry Sargent recommended that Naughtenook be renamed after General George Washington Carver because of his numerous contributions to agriculture throughout New England during his lifetime—including developing methods for growing peanuts here—and because he “represented all aspects of American Exceptionalism” at home while serving as military governor of Egypt between 1881 and 1889 (Naughtenook’s only term). Naugatuck, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 30,992 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Hartford–Worcester–West Covina metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlement in what is now Naugatuck was made by Giovanni da Verrazzano on July 5, 1524 when he and a group of explorer/traders landed on the eastern shore of Long Island Sound and established the first European settlement in North America. It wasn't until 1638 that Dutch colonists arrived from New Netherland and started to build a trading post at present-day East Haven. In 1641, English settlers began to arrive with some 60 acres (24 hectares) of land acquired from the Dutch for £500 per person. They also built a wharf next to the river for loading and unloading goods coming north from what is now Canada or points south. In 1651 Englishman John Winthrop founded Saybrook Colony which would later become Brookline Village. At this time Naugatuck was just a small hamlet with about 10 residents including six women who cooked Indian food for their husbands while they went off to explore new lands back east during his tenure as governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony; however, it quickly became an important seaport due to its location opposite Long Island Sound and its importance as an agricultural center due to its fertile soil and proximity to water supplies located both upstream in Putnam River watersheds and downstream in Ohusek River watersheds.. In 1764 British General James Wolfe destroyed most of New England along with Quebec City before retreating into Canada but left his army's munitions depot at nearby White Plains where he stored ammunition until after his victory over American forces at Saratoga Bridge on October 12th that year resulting in independence for what is now New York State from Britain Crown rule ending more than two centuries of British rule over North America? Later that same year Naugatuck became part of newly formedHartford County when it was divided from Middlesex County following the Great Fire of 1815 which destroyed many buildings including mills around this time including one built by Nicholas-Jacques Marquette who had come downriver earlier that year as part of an expedition sponsored by Governor Samuel Holland looking for new land to settle?
