The case began in 1978 when a man named John Hinckley was arrested for attempted assassination of President Ronald Reagan. Hinckley had purchased a shotgun from an online store and planned to use it against the president during a meeting at the White House. His scheme failed when Reagan's bodyguard, James Aufseherm, fired two rounds at Hinckley before he could commit suicide. This event led to heavy media attention in Naugatuck and across the United States, and has been cited as one of the most dramatic examples of gun control activism ever seen in the United States. In 1992, another individual named Richard Reid tried to purchase a shotgun from an online store in Naugatuck. He was stopped by security guards who found out he had previous felony convictions for criminal possession of explosives and car theft. After being questioned about his plans for assassination, Reid became known as "the Terrorist Man" because of his connections to terrorism-related activities. Despite this notoriety, Reid was eventually successful in purchasing a shotgun from an online store and planning to shoot people near Times Square on December 26th, 1993. However, after being stopped by police officers outside of City Hall in New York City, Reid detonated two explosive devices that killed six people and injured more than fifty others before dying from his injuries. This event is considered one of the deadliest terrorist attacks on American soil since 9/11). Despite these high-profile incidents, it is still relatively rare for individuals with criminal histories or ties to terrorism to be successful in purchasing firearms through online stores or other means. In fact, according to data compiled by FBI statistics between 2003-2015*, only three percent of all firearm purchases made through licensed retailers were made by individuals with criminal histories or terrorist affiliations.* Furthermore, even though these events are famously remembered among Americans living near major tourist destinations like New York City or Los Angeles (where shootings such as this have occurred), they are far from unique occurrences within Connecticut’s pistol culture: According to a study published by Gun Owners Action League* (GOAL) in 2016*, “The vast majority”(87%)of handguns sold statewide were bought without any prior handgun owning experience whatsoever*! He and his family were among the original settlers of this area which became part of Connecticut in 1664. The town was named for Nicholas Naugatuck, one of the signers of the Connecticut Constitution on December 12th, 1788. Today's Naugatuck has been shaped by its proximity to Hartford and West Hartford as well as its strong economy and culture. The towns have a mix of upper-middle class residents who work downtown or near major employers such as United Airlines and Ford Motor Company, with working-class families living around the schools and shopping districts. There are also a number of small businesses that continue to thrive in an economy that has seen significant job growth over the past few years. In spite of these positives, some areas still experience low levels of economic opportunity or poverty due to lack of access to resources or supportive infrastructure such as healthcare or education systems. This doesn't mean that Naugatuck isn't welcoming to newcomers; it just means that there is more work to be done for people from all walks of life before they can feel safe settling here permanently."

Naugatuck, Connecticut is a town in Hartford County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 17,978 at the 2010 census. It is part of the New Haven–Hartford-Bridgeport Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers were led by Major John Winthrop in 1636 and began to erect homes in what is now Naugatuck. In 1814, Naugatuck became one of the counties included in Hartford County when it was created from parts of Middlesex and Westchester Counties. The community's namesake comes from Nicholas Naugatuck who settled here in 1737. Nicholas had been born at Ipswich, Suffolk, England on October 15th, 1698 and came to North America with his father and two brothers as indentured servants aboard the ship "John Adams". He purchased land hereabouts in 1737 with money he had saved up while working as an overseer on a farm near Ipswich. Named after him are several streets within town: Nicholas Street (now Elm Street), Winthrop Street (now Waterman Avenue), Baptist Road (now Main Street), Grafton Road (now Potter Avenue), Indian Path (now Bridgeport Boulevard). In 1814, Naugatuck became one of the counties included in Hartford County when it was created from parts of Middlesex and Westchester Counties. At that time it consisted of only a small strip between Newtown Creek on the east side and central Hartford on the west side; all other territory lay within Middlesex County or beyond its borders. Soon afterwards the county erected its first courthouse here which burned down in 1848 but was rebuilt nearby using local lumber and stone methods typical of those days. This courthouse still stands today [it has been moved to its current location] – making this one of only a few townships or villages located entirely within one county during that era! It wasn’t until 1861 that Naugatuck incorporated as a village; at that time it consisted mainly of farmland extending into Windsor Plain to the south and some buildings on Long Island Sound beyond into Putnam County proper! In 1924/5 Naughaven annexed much of western Putnam Valley including Derby Plantation & many surrounding miles including East Derby Farmstead & Overbrook Farms though there remain significant parcels remaining unincorporated within town limits today

In 1815, the town was incorporated as a village. In 1925, the village merged with Naugatuck to form the present-day town of Naugatuck.
